Aviator HID install

Hello all...I recently imported an 05 Aviator into Canada. Unfortunately it didn't come with HID headlamps and I'm looking to do an install. I purchased a kit to replace the H11 low beams but have hit some snags and didn't realize I'd have to drill into the headlamps. Has any one installed aftermarket HID's in an Aviator? Can you give me any pointers or quick tips? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
 
You do have another option. Since the Aviator did have the HID option from factory, you can use those headlight assemblies. The connector is different (if I remember) but still plugs in with a bit of force. I also plan to wire it the proper way, the way it comes from factory by adding in relays. The factory HIDs are very bright and blue. They are reflectors not projectors (like many new cars), but I prefer the reflectory anyways as they are rare in HID form.

As far as the aftermarkets, unfortunetly I do not have experience with those.
 
I installed one of the Xetronic HID kits into my brother-in-laws Aviator. I did not have to drill any holes in the housing. However, I did have to cut a small tab on the back cover to allow the ballast wires to come out. It was a clean cut and looked factory after I was done with it. I had a hard time trying to find a good spot to mount the ballasts but other than that it was a 45 minute install.
 
Awesome! Thanks for the quick response guys...yes, the factory HID's are definitely an option I am becoming warmer to right now as they seem fairly straight forward...

Ken, where exactly did you end up mounting the ballast? I haven't looked at that back cover yet but are there any condensation issues with the lens when a tab is cut and it is no longer sealed?

I don't remember where we ended up putting them because it has been well over a year ago. Well, the way I cut the back cover was to retain the seal as much as possible. He has not had any condensation problems since the install.
 
I have a 2004 Aviator and I bought a kit for the high bean because I have factory hid. I have it from xenoneyes.com for 155.00. They work great and really easy to install. I choose the 6000k and they are really white , more bright than factory, it's alot of difference
