Yes, but this can be and has been made to work correctly. This is a same as some of the other schematics posted, but it it a little clearer to me.

With a voltmeter connected between ground (metal of car) and the wire labeled "HEAD_UNIT" you should measure 12 to 14 volts when the car is running and in reverse, and zero (less than one anyway) when the car is running and not in reverse. What are your measurements?

This is the exact way I had it wired up per the diagram 1LoudLS "OK'd". I have not tested this yet. I will be attempting again this weekend hopefully when the remnants of Ericka has passed. Maybe there won't be any rain. I'll hook it all back up and test it then.

Ok,,guess i asked the wrong question in the wrong thread.
was looking how to use STOCK nav screen with backup cam.
all links and such go to AM unit installs.
Maybe somebody that knows how will respond,,i hope ?

there was a module, that was kinda expensive, that is extremely hard to find now.

problem is the low resolution and color that the OEM nav screen uses is going to make any camera look terrible

Never heard of that......

That said, you are correct; the resolution is too poor to be of value for anything but the stock NAV.

there was a thread once, saw it brought back up a time or two...

kinda like the "aux in adapter" module but with video input for the screen.

a super quick google search led me to a thread with this... link is dead now of course...

there is a way you can do it and it will give you 3 a/v inputs and its also integrated to the nav so you wont loose any functionality but it cost around 400 bucks but thats a small price to pay for this add on. just go to this page http://www.avelectronic.com/NavigationVid-Switcher.htm and you can get a device that works with the LS....

well after seeing the mess that was Northstar, I would have gone back to push rod motors too :p

Oh brother, don't get me started on THAT thing, almost as bad as when they tried to use a gasoline engine as a diesel and didn't take the added cylinder pressure into account when selecting head bolts. Neither one though, is as bad as the LT1 2nd gen engine with the reverse coolant flow and camshaft driven water pump, which fried coils every time you drove through a puddle of water. They're worse than Lincoln LS coils.

or warped the aluminum heads if something went wrong and the engine overheated!
