Well, after sitting in 2.5 hours of traffic on my way to work with my current ride (2000 Mustang GT vert), I am on the dreaded BQE when I come across a sharp metal object in the road that was unavoidable.... Punctures and slices my 2 month old BFG KDW right front tire, but luckily I was able to make it to my exit (Tillary Street) and changed it in front of work.

After also getting soaked by a passing truck from a puddle, I take the car to a tire shop that then puts on a used tire for me.

When I finally get to work, I decide to step it up a notch in my car search and call the dealer I found with a 19,999 2004 LS, only to find out that the advertised price on the Internet and Ford Direct, etc, is wrong. They tell me the car is 24K.

Is this legal? Should I pursue it? Car appears nice in the photos. Autumn Red LS V8 black interior.

I believe it's legal if they have a "not responsible for typographical errors" type statement somewhere in their website. chances are they have that and you're sol.

Car dealers do this alot. Its good you called first, instead of wasting your time driving there.

yeah, tell me about it.

I told him straight "Tell me now, because I am not wasting my time going there if you are going to tell me its not 19,9." I then said "if after you review it with your manager, can sell it for that, call me, and I will come down".

Actually, i don't think that they are allowed to do that. It's called "bait and switch" and most states have laws against it. New York being a more progressive state, I would expect them to have such a law. I know that we have one here in Ohio.

I had a friend that caught a local dealer with 2 wranglers, one was I want to say a 98 and the other was a 95, they had 7k on the 98 and 9k on the 95. He took the ad in and they honored it. When I bough my LS, the internet said 16995 and 250 off is you printed the ad and brought it in. I did so but when I got there and found the car it had 21995 on the window sticker! I talked to the salesman and he said that yes, they had to honor the internet price.

Traffic today was especially effed up with the rain.....NYC needs some major developments....it sucks to hear about your day, but i have to agree with the false adv....its just to get you to bite.

when i bought my car they had advertised a 12 month 12000 mile warranty...when asked about it they said it was probably a misprint but since it had said it in the paper they gave it to me anyway.

2 different questions are being asked here. Is it legal to make a mistake? YES. Should a good, honest dealer give you the deal? YES. Do they LEGALLY have to give you the deal (assuming they have a disclaimer)? NO

If they have enough complaints maybe AG gets involved but if you purse a legal path be prepared to spend some serious $$$...all for the hope of saving $4K

BTW 20K isn't that great of a deal for an 04...it's fair but not super hot by any means. For that price it should have low miles, V8, and the THX/NAV system..then it's pretty hot but still not crazy.

Car has less than 15K miles and THX/Nav, certification 6yr/75K warranty and on the overall, most 03-04 cars around here get over 20K with around 30-40K on the odometer.

Car prices vary widely, even from within the same state. It all depends on the local economy, the used car market and what the wholesale auction houses are getting at that moment. An LS that would easily sell for 23K in Houston might not bring but 20K in say Cleveland or vice versa. Check local area ads or AutoTrader.com for similar vehicles in your area to determine a good price. If you are willing to travel, you may be able to locate what you want at the price you're willing to pay.

with that mileage and nav that sounds like a great deal

even for 24 it sounds like a decent deal. if it's still in your budget i would jump on it.
