What is the point of the vent tube on the battery? Shouldn't it be connected to the outside? My 2006 doens't have any opening or vent connection to the outside.

If it's not venting anywhere but inside the car, wouldn't a sealed battery be just as good?

there should be a rubber hose that connects to the vent port on the battery - the hose goes through the rear panel and to the outside behind the bumper cover.

Not sure about the '06 but my '01 has a vent tube which protects from harmful gasses being omitted into the pt compartment . I believe these gasses can be discharged if the battery is ever over charged ie. faulty voltage regulator .

Is your battey an OEM battery or aftermarket?

I have heard you can use Optima batteries in place of the motorcraft vented battery because it is sealed , But the optima is more expensive so why? other than I think it has more cold cranking amps if thats what your looking for.

I've had two OEM batteries in it. Both had a vent tube attached. This tube had a 90deg bend down out of the battery. The end of the tube had a flange on it. It would appear that it should push through the sheetmetal directly beneath the battery, but there is no hole anywhere near there.

I do not recall this tube ever connecting to the outside.

I have an 06. As Quick describes, there is a rubber hose attached to the battery vent tube. It runs to the outside of the car.

The back bumper is to the right, the passenger side of the LS is top.

All Lincoln LS have vented batteries.

Perfect picture. I always thought the tube should connect straight down since it was at a 90deg angle. Never thought to look towards the bumper.

Great photo of the Battery Vent Hose! I just had my 6-year old original battery replaced with a Motorcraft 100-Mo./3Yr Free Replacement Battery. I checked it the next day and discovered the Tech forgot to attach the Vent Hose to the Battery. Fortunately, I knew where it connected!
