Read the whole Wall Street Journal article here.

"Maryland couldn't balance its budget last year, so the state tried to close the shortfall by fleecing the wealthy." [snip]

But this all you really need to read. Liberal economics 101.:shifty:

"One year later, nobody's grinning. One-third of the millionaires have disappeared from Maryland tax rolls. In 2008 roughly 3,000 million-dollar income tax returns were filed by the end of April. This year there were 2,000, which the state comptroller's office concedes is a "substantial decline." On those missing returns, the government collects 6.25% of nothing. Instead of the state coffers gaining the extra $106 million the politicians predicted, millionaires paid $100 million less in taxes than they did last year -- even at higher rates." [snip]

Morons. They obviously never read the fable of the golden goose. Sheesh, this is kids stuff.

Fundamentally, they're trying to increase spending without increasing taxes on the majority of the Americans - which amounts to attempting to tax the rich.

Of course, the rich don't get rich by paying taxes, and loopholes will always win. Doesn't take much to see it won't work.

The far easier way to increase taxes would have been to work on closing the loopholes....

I just love the whiny "rich don't pay their fair share" crying.

Man up and send extra money to the fed to ease your conscience. Oh, that's right, liberals always want to spend 'other' people's money so I understand why that won't be a viable option for you.

Wow and wow. I actually post agreement with something on here and you insult me.

Thanks.

Do you even know what a 'loophole' is?

this is what the liberals get for wanting to play "robin hood" stealing from the rich....and the rich take their money and run

One Man = One Vote does not equate to progressive taxation.

Once you understand that, you'll understand conservatism and capitalism and the freedoms they provide.

the "loopholes" are not that big of a deal, and are specific laws put in for specific reasons. Take a look at this chart.

The problem is what it always has been, too much spending.

Loopholes are nothing but tax laws written by legislators. Pure and simple.

Loopholes are THE LAW.

Get over it, fiberals.

Once again... I post something in agreement, and I continue to get dragged through the mud.

The WSJ article outlined nicely that what the administration is attempting to do with taxes will not work, and I'm gonna go out on a limb here by saying that Bryan, Foss, Cal, et al are pretty much in agreement with that.

So when I say it won't work, why am I getting insulted and treated with condescension? Frankly, you guys are looking for an argument that isn't there. Are you that desperate for discussion in which you can 'win' against the evil liberals? Honestly, if this is the way Republicans treat voters (and members of their own party), they deserved the carnage that was the 2008 election and will not even stand a chance in 2010.

Why are you riding both sides of the fence? Maybe that's your problem!

Either join us in beating back these socialists our expect to get pounded if you stand in the way.

The Country is going in the crapper and some of us are not going to sit here and let it happen.

So either man up or make sure Nancy's dress slacks are always neatly pressed.

Why does it have to black or white?
Where is the middle ground.

You can pound on middle all you want but thats were the power is.
As soon as the far right can accept anything but the hard line views they cling to, they will be on the outside looking in.

You have no choice but to sit back and let it happen or sit and b!tch.

That's the great fallacy. There is no middle ground. When have liberals ever ceded middle ground? Middle ground means power grab for the left.

We ran a candidate as middle ground in the last election. Where did that get us? Our last President governed as though he was middle ground. Where did that get us?

Americans will support a real conservative, not a Republican middle-of-the-roader RINO.

Keep thinking you can win over the middle by playing to the middle.

I'll just sit back, make my money and watch other Americans suffer from their own decisions.

I just signed an Agreement to produce stuff in Indonesia. The company will not be headquartered in the U.S. and there will be no U.S. jobs. No warehousing. No nothing. Direct import. All the U.S.A. will collect is duties and sales tax on the consumer purchase. Thank your Legislative and Administrative branches of our new goverment for that.

Money is fleeing this country and nobody has a clue. I see hundreds upon hundreds of empty warehouses and manufacturing plants all around the country as I travel. Obama and his socialists will not do a thing to put production or jobs into any of those facilities. They are THE GREAT LIE.

The real pain is still to come.

Regards,

Well we will just have to disagree.
I think most people are on middle ground and are pulled one way or the other.

I can't say I blame you for your biz desicions, I'm sure I would do the same.
As far as manufacturing leaving the U.S. thats been going on for a while now.
I have been to too many auctions of competitors who have bit the dust.

The fit ones who survived are supposed to be fat and happy, instead they live off of credit lines hoping someday the work will come.
I hope your wrong and the real pain is now.
If you are wrong I will be here to tell you so. :D

I will be happy to join you in "beating back these socialists" but I would like to know how you plan on going about doing so? I have been asking around for a little while now how the Republicans intend to gain any ground in 2010 and nobody seems to have any answers. Sign me up, but tell me how we're doing it. And no, arguing over the Internet is not going to do it :) but I applaud you (and the others) for doing very well at it.

The failure of, and damage caused by Obama's policies will provide a huge opening in 2010 and 2012, but the conservatives have to be willing to capitalize on it. Right now, that means drawing a contrast between your principles, ideas, etc., and theirs. Also, shining a light on and countering all their dishonesty, obfuscation, etc.

Policy debates are superficial at this point, you first need to get agreement on (or at least an accurate understanding of) philosophy and principles.

Basically, right now, the groundwork has to be laid to be able to capitalize on the negative effects and failures of Obama's policies. If you are overly concerned with coming across as "nice" to liberals, you will let the more aggressive Dems rule the debate and ruin any chance you have of winning in 2010.

Is that what you wanted?

It's a start! That's the kind of thinking I wanted to see. Your approach is interesting, but I'd like to see more specifics, and I think the critical component of the plan is going to need to include showing Americans what the Republicans have to offer.

Right now, the "shining the light on dishonesty" comes across as "whining" to people who are in the center. The view from outside the Republican party is that of a child who didn't get his way throwing a temper tantrum. Really, I don't mean that to be an insult, but that's the kind of behavior it appears to be. We didn't get our way, so now we're going to whine and sulk about it. Part of that is, in fact, the way the MSM portrays the Right, and in order to win, we will need to combat that (another key part of success).
The way Joe Sixpack watches the news and sees a rebuttal to the Democrat budget containing no numbers doesn't quite endear him to the Party - it just looks like the Republicans are stalling and being difficult. The more productive approach would have been a budget containing realistic numbers showing what americans want to see: fiscal responsibility - and I know we all support it and it can be done, which is why I'm surprised that approach was not taken.

Americans need to know not that Obama's policies suck, but that the Republicans' policies don't. Smearing Obama won't win the next few elections.

Absolutely false.

It's a simple case of 'I told you so.'

Nothing more, despite your attempts to mischaracterize the reaction.

As far as the budget comments, the media can make sure Joe Sixpack sees whatever they want him to see, regardless of the truth. If you think that isn't the case, you're exceedingly naive.

I don't blame the rich for how much they pay to the IRS. I blame economics since even minimum wage can't keep up with inflation.

hell a .25-1.00 dollar increase per year for what...half of Americans..just isn't enough to keep up with steep housing prices, food, gas, etc that is affected by inflation. Maybe if housing was cheap AROUND minimum wage jobs..maybe that would be well suited. then the higher paying jobs work and live right by.....

....cause it's the rich communities that make housing prices go up....even here in redmond the average priced house is about 370k-450k

I'm getting ready to build myself a 3,000 square foot house for $10 per square foot. People just don't understand how to save money.

indeed. Such as not buying a newer car 'til you paid off your first..... or continuously using credit cards. Heck I only eat out if it's a special event..other than that i'm cooking every meal besides those I have protein shakes. Hell even protein shakes save money. For 80bucks I get a Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 10lb protein bag that lasts me about 1-2 months. which is equivelant to $.25 per shake :-D or really pump you up with more scoops with a $.50 shake.

Or how about constantly buying games or movies when you can just rent them? If you ain't gonna use it over and over again, why buy it? 20bucks for a DVD..you watch it once...what a waste!

So what's your plan for kicking the 'socialists' out of power in the next two elections?
