BG Flushes are promoted heavy locally here by Pat Goss..the guy from MotorWeek.

Personally? I've only had a transmission fluid flush. I change my fuel filter regularly/per schedule, and that's enough for me on the fuel side.

The fuel system flush is a popular dealer money maker. They either pour ins some chemical and run the engine or the "better" places will run pressurized cleanser directly thru the injectors. SOme garages will also clean the throttle body, which IS a worthwhile treatment every 80K miles or so.

Most magazines say the fuel system flush is not needed more often than say 100K miles or so depending on the quality of gas you use.

The OIl flush is not necessary on a properly maintained engine. The only time it might make sense is if they are putting old out of spec dino oil in the engine or if you never change oil or if you do a lot of short trips where the engine never warms up.

Just my opinion.

We used BG heavily at the dealership i worked at..... The standard BG service is acully a threepart system where a chemical is pumped throught the injectors, fooged in the intake system, and added to the fuel tank..... you'd be surprised how a engine will gunk up even after 30k..... it's pretty wild when you start the car after the first step is done.... nothing but black smoke for awile......so does it help, and is it good for the car.... absolutly... is it nessisary.....of course not.....

BG44k fuel system cleaner. Good stuff for an old (high mileage) system. But it wont make any difference if your system is already clean. If you regularly use fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank, I wouldn't bother with it.

Not really. According to AllDataDIY, the "throttle body bore and plate area have a special coating and cannot be cleaned, or possible damage to the throttle body can occur."

Its coated with an anti-corrosive. Cleaning it with Brake or TB cleaner and a soft nylon brush wont hurt it. Cleaning it with Simple Green will.

There are throttle body cleaners that are safe to use on the polymer/plastic coated TBs. If you use old fashioned carb cleaner or older cheaper brands of TB cleaner, yes it will eat the coating and then the TB gets dirty quicker. You won't damage the TB(at least the chebbies I have owned), but you will clean it more often.

Usually after about 100K miles, you get enough blowback or reversion thru the intake that the TB gets gummed up a bit. Then you need to clean out at least the air bypass or whatever Ford calls it, a little flapper valve and port near the main bore.

I would assume(could be a bad assume) that a dealer would know not to use harsh chemicals on the TB, and they love to do it since it is fairly easy and can add up service $$.

Just my opinion,

I was a Porter/Tech helper at a stealership in Auburn, AL back in college. They pushed the BG system heavily. The vender would give decent kick backs to the Techs for using the product. At the bottom (on the inside) of each can is a piece of colored hard plastic used to mix the product. For each one of those that you gave back to the vendor, he would pay out cash to the Techs. I don't know if it works or not. I do agree that if you have a maintained engine that it may not be that necessary.

I belive the product works but not well with the LS. I understand where one was comming from thinking that the dealerships should know better but what about the TSB's posted here on the coils and yet some of us had made many trips to that dealer before it was fixed.

I have never got to the bottom of this but I had this done at a dealership once, I had very low milage, now its even worse. I think some cars can handle it but for others with the polish or what ever kinda coating it is, they just cant. I have been questioning this with other mechanics to find out if this is what could be lowering my MPG's even more but like everyones oppinions here I get different confilcting feedback.

Osain is correct, if the cars is well maintained and you dont mix up all kinds of gas and additives its not all that needed. In my case, they suggested it cause of the miles and every dealership wants to push it feeling some customers are at a vulnerable stage do to the rise in gas prices.
