Didn't want to dig it up from last week. Changed the oil, again, with 20-50 non-syn this time. Drove like a bat out of hell for about ten minutes to blow out all the oil that'd leaked down the walls and everywhere. Runs better, doesn't smoke so bad on startup now, but still belches on wot under drive load. Sorta dribbles smoke at idle now.

Next step, I think... figure out if a coil (s) is bad. The biggest issue, and the reason I didn't do this first, is I don't have a check engine light on. Furthermore, I can only hear the engine missing at wot under drive load, not parked. Of course, that may be because it isn't misfiring significantly until it's over the rev limiter, which wouldn't happen unless its in drive, obviously.

Anyway, what should I do next? Start pulling plugs? Start pulling coils? See if I can get a CEL code at Autozone even though I don't have a light? Keep in mind the valve cover gaskets are less than a year old and there isn't any oil leaking into the engine compartment.
 
I am sorry to be the "one", but with the smoke you are describing, you are in for an engine tear down, to do your rings. "Belching at wot", is a clear indication of internal wear, not an ignition system. You need to be concerned with the engine internals right now, not ignition. My guess is, that once the internal repair is done, your missing will take care of itself.
Most of the smoke you see, is unburnt oil. some of that will collect on the plugs, and foul them. If you change them now, you will see some improvement, for a short time, until the plugs foul again.
Treat the problem, and most, if not all of the symptoms will go away.
 
Yeah, I'm beginning to agree. I'm not getting any of the 'stuttering' I had from coils, and I never had any significant smoking with my coil issues before. The smoke is HEAVY and thick, half throttle on the highway last night pretty much made headlights behind me disappear.

Ballpark what am I looking at shelling out for a ring job?
 
When we got my wife's 93 grand charokee (year ago) with 138K miles, it ran great, didn't smoke. I made the mistake of changing the oil and use synthetic (with that many miles). A couple of weeks later is started smoking at startup, and at idle. It eventually worsened to smoking all the time. Changing the valve guide seals (cheap--I do work myself) fixed the problem. I realize that you are getting a lot of smoke at WOT which I did not. It may be worth a try, but I am thinking engine wear also. My 02 LS does not get low on oil, even at oil change time it is still full.
 
It it were me, I would pick up a complete engine - used, tear it down, and do all of the normal routine engine rebuild duties, then i would find a place to do the swap. It needs a lift to get the car up, then the engine would go in from underneath...if it were me.
