My worst fear is that the Rear Main Seal on my 2004 Town Car (222k miles) is leaking just a tad. I have read numerous reviews about BlueDevil Rear Main Sealer and they all seem real good. Anyone here have thoughts on that?

Sounds like a fool and his money will soon part. There is no gasket/seal fix that actually works. If there were, it would be the greatest invention since synthetic rubber.

Except of course, hundreds of users say otherwise and there is a money back guarantee. A company wouldn't sell a product that doesn't work and then give you back your money now would they?

Dorman degas bottles, Autozone coils, and Deutsche Parts suspension also have guarantees. They don't cover the cost and or re-replacing stuff.

As for Blue Devil, I don't know anything specific about the product by I don't like it for two reasons: I don't like any stop-leak products (unless in an emergency or specified by the OEM) and Blue Devil's website is misleading. It claims leaking oil can cause wire corrosion, poor electrical connections, and that the sticky sludge (oil, dirt, grime) left under your car will increase maintenance time and costs. All the oily grime I've come across wiped away easily and prevented rust. WD-40 is an oil designed to inhibit rust by coating things in oil. POR-15 is an oil used to undercoat cars to prevent rust. I also don't thing a main seal leak will get any oil on "brakes and other suspension components"

Maybe the product is fine and just has a crappy marketing team, but my first (opinionated) point is enough for me

every single day....

lets say with the cheap price that a small tube of sealer would sell for. you would have to figure that a large percentage of people wouldn't even bother to try to get a refund, of those that wanted to, I'm sure there would be a lot that just got too busy and either didn't have the time or forgot to. then there is the part where you usually have to pay out of pocket to ship it back to the manufacture with will cause a lot of people to just drop the idea.

long story short, they could be just selling you a tube of unfiltered recycled oil, with materials that cost them next to nothing, even if 25% wanted a refund, they would still be laughing their way to their bank!

pretty much... WD-40 was designed to displace water to help clean and keep from rusting. in the 50's a rocket company made their 40th different "water displacement" formula for their own use. then they noticed all their employees kept sealing it to take home because of all the uses it was good for, they wised up quickly and started selling it to the public!

I lucked out I think. Got the car on the lift and the fluid is coming from where the Drive Shaft meets the Transmission. Seems I have a leaky Tail Shaft Seal. I even saw a drop of RED fluid on the housing, at the lowest point. The area directly above the insertion point is quite greasy, about 3" in either direction.

Time and cost to replace: $8 and about 40 minutes.

For future reference, that stuff probably works for a few hundred miles. Who do we know that would want a cheap fix for a leak that lasts at least a few hundred miles? Starts with shady used, ends with car dealer...
