I just got new brakes installed on my car about 2 or 3 weeks ago and they are starting to squeak pretty bad. They did slightly at first, which I thought was normal, but it has gotten progressively worse. Also, at about a dead stop when slowing down very slowly or starting very slowly it has this grind/rub feel and sound to it. Any ideas?

I have the same problem. But I've been dealing with my squeaky brakes for 2 months!

It bothers me but I'm just waiting to order the slotted/drilled w/ red stuff from LSK. The brakes on now are from Ford.

i was having squeak problems because i had the semi-mettalic w/ the slotted drilled rotors set-up. i bought the posi-quiet ceramic pads and what a difference that made. no squeaking what-so-ever. what a buy IMO

My brake sounds bad too .i was changing my brake 3 week ago and it's skeeze me too. mabe it's normal if a couple of LS as the problem

Buy Porterfileds. No squeak, no dust and no fuss just fun, fun, fun times breaking at the last minute and stopping on a dime. Then peel out... leaving the chumps behind you with the change.

I had squeeky brakes for about a year. about $600 later, i still had it. its gone now because i dont have the LS anymore. i tried about 3 different shops, new rotors and 4 different types of pads; the last being ceramics and it still squeaked. i wish i could give you a remedy. good luck.

KD00LS: What kind of pads did you buy?
Ive had similar problems with other cars that are nearly exactly like you described. But in each case it was caused by cheap brake pads. I use nothing but Raybestos now. I've used them on 3 different cars which exhibited the same problem, all 3 cars the better Raybestos pads fixed the problem for good. Or at least until I got rid of the cars. Even their low tier pads are excellent quality. I have them on my truck now and have had not so much as a peep out of them for close to 5000 miles.

my power stop pads squeak and dust pretty bad. not too happy with purchase. they are about 2months old but i would have figured that would have went away by now.. =/

I'm not sure what pads they were off hand, a shop on the corner did them.

those didn`t work for me. some problems gotta be more than the pads or rotors but no one here could manage to figure it out.

Porterfields...squeaked from day one. Great brakes...no fade and superb stopping power.

Mine don't make a squeaking noise really only once in awhile which is normal. But i hate that damn dust on my rims. What is a good, quiet, no dust, and stops nice and smooth pads? How much are they typcially?

Take the car back to the shop that did them if it has been 2 or 3 weeks. Most shops have a warranty and customer satisfaction on their work.

Get Ceramic pads if you don't like the dust.

For those of you with high priced/performance brake pads, did you apply anti-squeal compound to the backings before you installed them?
Shims don't do much good in the way of noise reduction. The shims can still slip around on the back of the pad, and they get dirt and brake dust under them which can make them squeal.

Yea, I have an appointment set for Wednesday. It's no so much of the squeak that scares me, it's the grind to a halt that does.

The Porterfield R4S pads I had on my '04 never squealed and they didn't dust much at all. The only downside was that they didn't have really good cold bite--but once they warmed up, they would haul the car to a stop post haste.

I now have EBC Greens and EBC Ultimax slotted rotors on my '06; they seem to dust quite a bit (more than stock, IMHO, but I think that's supposed to subside after 1,000 miles or so), but there's no squeal at all.

When I first installed my EBC Greens on the stock rotors, I had horrendous squeal problems. I tried Permatex Disc Brake Quiet, which normally works wonders, and I tried redoing the "brake-in" procedures, but nothing helped until I installed new rotors. I went ahead and ordered the EBC Ultimax rotors, though probably all I needed to do was to have a non-directional finish put on the rotors. The rotors didn't need to be turned, but they did need the cross-hatched finish that breaks up the "glaze" on the friction surface. I would expect a shop to do that as a matter of course, but you never really know how professional some "pros" really are. (I didn't do it because I didn't do it for the Porterfields I put on my '04, and they never squealed. Apparently, the EBCs need it.)

When I installed the new rotors (which had the cross-hatched finish), I cleaned the bejeezus out of the caliper brackets with CRC Brake Cleaner, then I liberally applied CRC Disc Brake Quiet (I found a bottle of it at AutoZone) to the backs of the pads, and added a light coating of hi-temp grease to the faces of the caliper bracket where the pads make contact. My brakes have been squeal-free ever since.

Hopefully, those guys will take good care of you...
