Brakes!?

Well boys and girls,
The slotted brake rotors, portfield pads and the Eibach springs are installed. I love it, looks good brakes feel like they are stopping compared to my old set. I am waiting to put it thru its paces once I get the recomened 100 miles on them. Here are some pics of the finished product.

Thanks for the pointers Ken!

that makes me want to lower mine. That looks awsome and once you decide to start selling these please post.

- is it me - or do they look like the rotors are on backwards...?
No, that picture is of the right rear wheel. The slots are going in the right direction.

my rear calipers are straight up and down - that looks like a front wheel.

That's the left front wheel. The caliper is on the "rear" of the rotor.

Ken - here's a pic of your front wheel

FIX THAT ROTOR PLEASE>

THAT ROTOR IS BACKWARDS. WILL IT AFFECT? MAYBE :monkey:

common problem - it tends to wipe the brake dust down into the hub. Not a disaster but should swap them.

sorry dude - didn't mean to pick out an issue on this thread.

I bought mine well over a year ago off of eBay from CC Rotorworks. Paid like $270 or so plus shipping. They've been great. I'm getting ready to take the complete brake system off and put my new StopTech Big Brake system on. I'm just waiting to get shocks so I can do the whole job at once.

Great Scott they are on backwards I either labeled them wrong or the techs installed them wrong. SH*T no big deal have them swapped out to right side in no time thanks for the pick up QuikLS. But all in all the effect is the same, I dont see it causing a major problem. Will change soon, have Jaguar issues now to deal with, so soon they will get flipped around.

same setup I am running.

I was always shown and told how he had them on was proper if they were also cross drilled... it helped for better cooling of the rotor itself.

I've seen a lot of cars with this rotation (including mine now).

As far as i remember unless you have a curved vane (slot) is when it only matters what direction they're in... straight or plane vanes are non-directional. But as far as the rotor cooling itself internally as it moves I was always shown and told the above link is how you want to do it. Brake dust isn't likely to be a problem either way based on the rotation (nothing incredibly noticable) but the point of the drills and slots are for cooling and less brake fade.

Any opinions?

Forgot to add to the post above -^

The reason i hear most people saying they cracked or warped on them using cross drilled / slotted is likely due to the incorrect installation of the rotational direction needed... the rotation allows air to pull in better and reduce smear...

Refer to the StopTech link above for further information.

You are right! I have seen tech articles that advocate both directions. I think if it were me, I would go with what ever the rotor Mfg. suggested. Quik's way is how I always thought that slots were supposed to go, but now I would go with the Mfg.

Speaking of brakes, has anyone weighed the stock brake/caliper setup and compared them with a quality big brake/caliper setup? Are the big brake and custom calipers significantly heavier or are the custom setups actually lighter?

Ken, would you weigh your new big brake kit and compare it to a stock setup when you install the Stop Tech kit?

I didn't do a weight comparison when I installed the StopTech system. Considering the size of the calipers and rotors I'd have to say the StopTech system weighs more but in the big scheme of things the weight difference would be unnoticed.
