So I did some searching and I couldn't really find an answer. Which caliper paint is the best to go with? The G2 caliper paint kit comes with 4oz and its $42.99 with out shipping. Has a heat resistance of 980*F. I'm concerned that 4oz isn't going to be enough and I really don't want to order 2 kits. But if its the best choice then I'll do what has to be done. The duplicolor caliper paint kit comes with 8oz and its half the price and its at my local autozone. And only has a heat resistance of 500*F. I don't think the heat resistance will really matter since I'm not that hard on my brakes. I'm going with black. I want what's going to look the best and last the longest. So with knowing what you know and the experiences you've had, what is the best kit to go with?

Thanks in advance.

Duplicolor. That way you can touch it up later. With G2 you have to spend another $40+ to do touch up, as the whole thing hardens within hours after opening. Go with Duplicolor, especially if you have stock wheels, as you will be touching up after tire rotations etc. I must have touched up 5 times in the last 4-5 months after various services.

Edit: I painted mine Rustolium Engine Gloss Black and Duplicolor Red. All they had locally in black was duplicolor brush on, or 500 degree Rustolium Engine Enamel Spray. I used the Rustolium gloss black engine spray. For touch up, I spray a paper plate and use a Q-Tip cotton swab for a brush. I used the duplicolor red brush on for the rest. (Painted everything while the calipers were still on the car after cleaning and masking).

I agree with duplicolor, Mine started to get a chip in it and just touch it up and it looks good again. Easy to do.

it depends on what color you want cuz i know g2 has a larger range of colors then duplicolor. if your gonna go with something simple like red black blue ect.. go with dupli if you want something diff like purple and other colors like that go with g2

x5 on the dc. For $7 you can do 2-3 coats on all 4 and have some left over for future touchups if needed. Mine have held up great this year.. It's spay's nicely and is pretty durable.

I used a steel brush and finished with some 400 grit. Sprayed it down w/ brake cleaner and painted away. Just mask the area well.

I want my calipers done but I want them powdercoated.

Haven't used either, but dc sounds like the better choice. I dont think our brakes exceed what the dc can manage.

+1

You can't beat the smoothness or shine of that with caliper spray paint.

You don't have to be hard on your brakes, Duplicolor will start chipping after few months. Be prepared to touch them up.

Happened to you?

In that case, just powder coat them, you wont regret it!

I've had mine painted since early spring and can only see 1 spot were something hit it. About1/4x1/4".. Though everyone's driving is diff along with the area's the car is driven in. Results may vary.

I used Duplicolor Engine Enamel Primer and then 3 coats of Duplicolor Engine Enamel after using a dremel with a small wire wheel on all the parts. I removed the calipers and mounts from the car. Trying to do them on the car is messy and incomplete IMO. I did the calipers in 'black' and the mounts in 'aluminum'. The Engine Enamel is only around $5 can vs. the Caliper Paint at around $10. Both are rated at 500 degrees. I am happy with the results and durability so far.

dont go with Duplicolor.. worst paint on the market. if your going to do it, do it right so you dont have to redo it.

just my .02 $

Yea, on my old Mark viii. I remember redoing them quite often. I even tried clear coating them twice with 500 degree paint and didn't really change much.

Basically you can not do touchup with G2 later.

You might want to find the Rustolium Engine Enamel Black Spray. I got it at Walmart & Autozone.

I would like to powder coat them. But obviously I would have to remove them. Which would mean I wouldnt have my LS. So I wouldn't be able to get to work or any where else. Plus I hate bleeding brakes, its to time consuming and if you break the bleeder, it causes a whole new problem. obviously I wouldn't break the bleeder, I just don't want to do the work. Lol

Edit: what I'm trying to say is I don't feel like dealing with the hassle of removing the calipers and mounts. Going with out a car for who knows how long. And then having to reinstall it all. I'm just to busy with work and everything to do all the work, when I can achieve the same look with less work and in way less time and money.

Well if Duplicolor is the worst paint out there. And if the only way to do it, is to do it right. Then what the hell is the correct way to do it? Don't Sh!t on an idea if you don't have a better one. LOL

Here's how mine turned out with Rustolium Gloss Black Engine Spray and Duplicolor brush on red. It's fine. Get some caliper cleaner, tape, paint and go for it.
