Can Bad COP's cause transmission shift issues?

I have a 03 V8 LS and my transmission shifts hard from 3rd to 4th and has a harsh reverse engagement. I've replaced my solenoid pack but that didn't help and the problem still remains. Before the harsh shift the engine noise is very loud and the RPM gauge goes very high and after the shift the engine noise is barely noticeable and just exhaust noise remains. When I step on the pedal and bring it to the floor it takes a second to accelerate and shifts very hard again no matter what gear I'm in and has a harsh downshift letting off. Can bad Coils on Plugs be the problem? Any other Ideas?

I changed out all my coils and plugs in March due to cylinder 8 missing.

It was marginal under load before it threw the code to trigger the CEL. The symptoms I was having had me thinking something was going on with the tranny at first as well, because a misfire will throw a code right? Not if it's still marginal.

The motor ran fine except for the occasional kick or two at a stop light waiting to get going a again and then it would start kicking around 40 mph and felt like it was having trouble shifting between 4th and 5th. (Going up and down like it didn't know what to do as well)

I would suggest changing out all the ignition coils and spark plugs or you can bench test them to find the one that's dying or wait for it to miss bad enough to trigger a code and tell you which one.
 
I didn't notice anything with my RPMs as you have described but marginal coils have caused harsh shifting for me. I assumed it was the lack of power from the motor confusing the transmission.

The coil finally triggered a code, I exchanged all coils and plugs and I've been running beautifully since. Good luck.
 
Thank you so much! I just wanted someone elses input before I throw the money at them you know? Any reccomendation for good coils for performance and quality? Thanks once again for your help!
 
For coils every one says to use Motorcraft, I would have liked to but I'm a poor college kid and I ended up going with a set I found on eBay due to budget limitations.

Not sure how close they actually are to Accel Ignition coils but they look a lot like a generic version of the Accel Mustang coils some folks have modified to use in the LS if you ask me.

I paired these with the NGK Iridium spark plugs, obviously took care of the misfire, and my engine runs as good as new with incredible response.

Don't have a lot of pictures of the coils that I took myself but the quality of the materials seemed to be on pair with factory products, and the bright yellow color is reassuring because it looks cool.

My gaskets were fine and this has been a great setup for me since early March now.
 
This is an LS. Bad COPs will impregnate your wife/gf, give you a black eye, and send your boss nasty messages. :)
 
^ with a filthy engine like that, would it really matter if the covers were missing?
 
It's a chinese knock-off. They are supposed to look like an Accel COP just without actually saying Accel on them.

If you are lucky it's a quality knock-off and you'll be just fine. :)
 
Unfortunately, you can't tell the quality of what's on the inside by looking at the outside.

They'll also fabricate evidence to call in a drug raid, then try to plant drugs in your house if you refuse to go on a date with them. Luckily, the state police listened to my mother during the raid (she already had several complaints against him) and didn't allow that one particular cop into the house. He was subsequently fired (meaning moved to the next town).
 
I ordered a set off e-bay as well. 52 dollars and some change to my door. Prolly kick the cel and go bad in a few months but, I will give them a shot since they are the price of one at the parts store. OH YEAH, don't order from partsgeek whatever you do.

And to think I only complain when they pick me out of a 3-wide group of cars speeding down the highway to give a ticket to. LOL
