I'm looking to replace my door speakers. I want it to be louder. I am not at all concerned with bone rattling bass, but a little is nice. I basically want the stock system louder.

I think I found the speakers I will get if I do this.

But I'm not sure about an amp yet. So far this one is winning.

So my questions are:

Any other suggestions? What's better? I searched and found a lot of people like the Kappas.

What else do I need to get this to run with my stock head unit? Can I even do it?

2002 LS V6 without Alpine

Thanks guys let me know

heres my suggestion, ill start with the amp...

AMP:

Next onto the speakers. You can use 5x7/6x8's throughout the whole car if you want. Personally if it were me id run componets up front just for the sound quality, and then 5x7/6x8's in the back.

5x7/6x8's that i recommend are image dynamics, Alpine, Focal. Try to find something with a silk tweeter, they arnt as harsh on the highs.

Up front i would run 5.25 component speakers. You can make adaptor plates and shave the hole to make them fit properly. CDT, Image dynamics, alpine Type X if its still out.

Image dynamics actually has a 5x7 component speaker system but its like 480$. I like image dynamics products alot, great quality. the price is a lil steep but you do get what you pay for.

MB quart has a 6x8 component system out aswell for 189.99$

The reason that i would run the component system up front is because some actually have tunable crossovers to maximize overall sound quality. Measure from your head to the speaker, put in the correct bridge, and your golden.

Kappa's (or even reference series) get my biased vote. I've had them for many years now. Probably the best sound without spending $500 on 4 speakers. They sound good even with the low power that they would get from your stock receiver. Because of this, I would reccomend them for ease of install, and that they will still be good later on should you decide to go aftermarket receiver/amplifier (they'll sound really good then).

I've been looking to replace my factory speakers with the Polk Audio DB lineup of speakers.

Greatly priced and good sound quality. Give or take same power requirements for Alpine type S .

im going with Kicker rs56.2 they are a little steep but they also come with the adapter plate for the 6x8 in the doors great sound and ease of install + for me

yea i had a zapco refrence 500.1 on a image dynamics IDmax 12" subwoofer. Alpine type X component speakers up front, alpine type S 6x9's in the back of my camaro. that system was the most expensive ive ever had, but it sounded GRREEAATTT!

I would go a different route:

Kraco makes some high end audio products.

First I would start off with their head unit to get maximum sound:
http://cgi.ebay.com/KRACO-AM-FM-8-T...ryZ48603QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

or

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Krac...015QQitemZ250234863520QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Then go with one of their high powered amps:
http://cgi.ebay.com/kraco-8o-watt-2...ryZ39732QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

To get the best possible sound get their speakers, forget teh 5x7 or 6x8 , these are 1/2 the size and probably put out twice the sound:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Jensen-Kraco-4-...ryZ14938QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Then top it off with some of their accessories:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Kraco-KRD-18-Ra...ryZ14935QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

They just dont make stuff like they used to, now all you can buy is this Alpine, Kenwood, Fosgate crap.

I don't think he wants to run 3 batteries to power all that equipment.

I didnt think about that, sorry guys, I was just trying to help. But this may be a much more expensive way to go if you have to upgrade your alternator and run 3 batteries. I just overlooked the minor details. :D

x1000000000!! polk audio makes very nice speakers

If you don't mind cutting a hole in your A-Pillar, you could run components. You can stick the tweeters in the A-Pillar, and then put the 6.5 woofer in the stock location. Minor tweaks are needed to get the woofer to fit. I used the stock plastic piece as a template, and created a wooden ring that connected to that plastic piece. I then mounted the woofer to that. You would also need to cut the back of the door panel where the grill is.

I can take pics to show you what I did if you'd like.

CDT makes very good speakers for relatively cheap. Also, I heard the Pheonix Gold RSD series are good for the money as well. Unfortunately the RSDs seem to be discontinued, and it's hard finding them.

Do most tweeters not fit where the stock ones are in the center console?

My car didn't have tweeters in the center console. Not only that, but that would throw off staging and imaging having a center speaker. That is, of course, unless it is used only for video playback with 5.1 surround.

So to answer your question, IDK.

I really like that amp. It looks simple and the numbers seem right.

If only I had the money.. Hey a guy can dream right?

Do most tweeters not fit where the stock ones are in the center console?

They only came with the Alpine system.

Anyways I think I'd rather go with replacing door speakers. I dont really think I need a component setup. My hardest part so far has been finding speakers and an amp that match up. I want to get full RMS use out of the speakers, but this is too much money to speak to have something blow. I really like the Kappa's and the reviews on them that I've read, now I guess I'm just looking for a good deal on an amp. Thanks for the help so far guys keep it coming.

You could flush mount the tweeters in the door too. It was a little nerve-racking doing the first one, but it looks/sounds awesome to me. I used Eclipse point source 5x7 components since they were on clearance for like 85 bucks.

Sorry to break the news to you, but replacing your speakers will not "make it Louder" They ONLY way to make it louder is add more power. Put in an amp.

not true, a speaker with higher sensitivity is louder at the same wattage.

Yep...efficiency is the key. Speakers differ greatly in how much volume (db) they generate with the same signal. You can power a set a Klipsch k-horns off of a little portable radio, and they'll make you deaf. At the same time, my Bose system requires alot of power to sound good at listening levels. It's all done purposefully by the manufacturer. Check the effeciency, usually given at 1 watt of power at 1 meter distance from the speaker in decibels, of the speakers you are interested in. Then when you have it narrowed down, go to your local audio shop and listen to those speakers. It's not hard to improve on the sound of the factory system by just upgrading the speakers, and the LS premium audio system already has an amplifier. Unless you want booming bass and ear damaging highs, it's entirely adequate.

I was planning on getting an amp, but if I am reading this right, I don't need one right away. Is that correct? Just replacing the speakers will give me better sound, but to get what I want I'll need an amp, I think.

Yeah, see that your original post says you don't have the alpine unit, so you might need an amp added. Never heard the non-alpine factory unit so I couldn't say what the sound is like. Good luck with your install.:)

I'll be adding an amp eventually. But I think I will do the speakers first. The right speakers were pretty easy to find, that Zapco amp is winning now though.
