Thank you LVC! with your help and posts I fought the DCCV, Degas bottle X's 3 (f-u Dorman 603-207 crap), "THE ELBOW", fan the actuator, bleeding and the alternator. while I did the elbow I tackled the plenum gaskets and spark plugs and won! this is a very valuable site! my 2002 ls is alive and well! I was almost thinking about launching it from a clif into it's natural habitat but we are making up!

I find this forum very useful for an aspiring mechanic. One should own an LS; they will quickly learn how to fix a car. Brilliant piece of Ford engineering gone terribly wrong with pretty shady cost cutting methods (plastic timing chain tensioners, plastic clips on window regulators, some plastic god awful interior trim, plastic radia.... well anything that has to do with the cooling system, no dipstick for transmission, etc.).

This site will literally save you so much money, and will help you out if you're interested in buying another LS in the future (which we always do, despite the pains and efforts of owning one to begin with).

two cars anybody that want to learn how to work on cars should own...

old chevy, super simple, super easy to work on and learn how everything works.

then as level two training, an LS. this way, you get tough how to work on all sorts or pain in the ass jobs with hard to reach parts!

I second this! My LS is my second car, the first being a '92 Cavalier. It is a lot harder to diagnose problems without an OBD2 system to tell you what's going on, but on the other hand, it is pretty nice when the part you need to fix the problem costs $8 and is in stock at every local parts store.

I'm pretty sure my 03 cavalier has never cost more than $100 to repair anything!

love/hate

the LS is a gorgeous and comfortable car as long as you take care of it, no, spoil it,no, treat it the same you would your spouse or first born.yep thats it. I remember when I first brought my 02 home and pulling in. to a best buy to buy an ipod interface for it... someone asked if it was a rental... and later stated how nice of a car it was and that the silver with the chrome grille and rims looked sharp. I too had a "car love" feel to it. it saddens me to see this car to break all at once. my wife keeps asking why I keep putting money into it.... well, Although the car is designed by ford to self destruct at around 140k miles, it is MY lincoln and the time and effort I put into it is truly because of the joy driving it brought me.I remember the first time hearing the term "triptronic shift"...had no clue to what Iit was but it tripped the hell out of it.. or the first time I could have dumped a beta fish in my passenger door after it rained.. I was like" how the hell did all the rain manage to make it in MY car?!....it truly is a love/hate relationship... here she is, dented, beaten scratched, although the score is 10 to 3, me losing... those 3 wins have been worth it
