The car drove in fine this morning with the exception of a few hard 1-2 shifts this morning and yesterday evening. I went to leave work, started it up and pulled into drive and the car will not go anywhere. I will not engage into any gear; acts as if it's still in park. I had AAA show up and they disconnected the battery for about 5mins and reconnected it and still the same results. Is my tranny gone? Car got towed to the dealer but they wont look at it until Monday. Any suggestions?

IMHO, either the shifter is dead or the linkage under the car came off. My initial bet is disconnected linkage, assuming you can move the shift lever.

Shifter moves with no problem, gears just won't engage.

I had a similar problem. I was just driving down the road and my car felt like it just went into neutral. The gear indicator still said it was in gear, but I got no movement. Took it to the dealer and it ended up needing a new transmission due to the input shaft broke. I hope this isn't your problem, but that was my experience. Good Luck!!

How much did a new tranny run you? Car only has 41000 miles and is a 2005 LS8 sport. I do use the SST a lot. Would that cause it?

same problem with me

same thing happened to me right after i fixed my suspension putting new sway bars and outer tie rods the same day my car was drivin perfect and then on the red light i stopped when it turned green it just wouldnt move as if it was in neutral.. i was able to get it home messing around with the manual shifter but couldnt go past secong gear.. took it to a tranny shop and they told me it was some piece inside the tranny called planetary gear unit or something like that they charged me $550 to fix it let me know what it was with ur car because i feel like they screwed me over... but i might be wrong

definetely check the linkage and does it have fluid i know we cant check it on these cars but have you ever had it checked

Hopefully, I will hear from them today. When the tow truck dropped off the car they were closed and didn't do transmission work on Saturdays. I'm really hoping I don't have to purchase another transmission. Anyone know what the factory Ford warranty is? I thought it was like 5yrs/1000000mi or 7yrs/1000000mi?

1 mil miles would be nice :)

I don't think it's 7 years.

5 years or 50K from the original buy date, other than the extended warranty for the 2003-2005 V8 COP's, 10 years 100K.

I spoke with the dealer and they said 4yrs

I don't remember all of the details, but I do know that the warranty term changed from model year to model year. This is also true for how long the free oil changes were provided. The 06s even had two different warranty terms. Which one you got depended on if you bought it before or after the 07s (of other Lincoln models) were out.

I did miss spoke for the 2004 model, it was 4 years 50K with 24hr roadside service and 12 month/12K scheduled maintenance. From the 2002 catalog it was 3yr/36K with complementary maintenances. 2005 catalog, 4yr/50K bumper to bumper. joegr would know more about the 2006, but the catalog I have says 1yr /12K scheduled maintance, 4yr/50K bumper to bumper with roadside assistance.

I got an update today finally. They suspect the transmission pump has failed or exploded. They are going to drop the tranny and disassemble to make sure this is the case. He is going to verify with my extended warranty which is with Fidelity to see if they will cover the drivetrain. I looked at my paperwork and have the Silver coverage but didn't see anything about it covering the drivetrain (keeping my fingers crossed). Anyone familiar with Fidelity?

So they ripped apart the transmission and found that the planetary gear broke as well and damaged the transmission cooler. The warranty company will replace the entire transmission but not the transmission cooler. They said the cooler runs around 750.00...I hope after this is all fixed that the transmission lasts longer than 40,000miles!!!

I got my ride back Saturday and it rides smooth as ever. They ended up replacing the transmission with a remanufactured transmission. So far no problems. They said that I could drive normally how I would drive (no need to break-in or anything). I noticed that when I now fill up with a full tank, it tells me 375miles to E instead of 250miles to E.....will this decrease over time? They did disconnect the battery when they did the install.

yeah, computer resets to some amazingly optimistic values. It'll self correct quickly. Especially if you dose heavily with the right foot.
