This is true for both generationsYes... the tabs break off, but they are just for centering.
If you have a Gen 2 3.9... the water pump is the easiest thing to replace on the LS.
Never saw that until now and it definitely caused a spike in temp. New thermastat is running colder.Yes... the tabs break off, but they are just for centering.

I found the metal water pump fins are way better on aftermarket waterpumps when changing out the OEM Motorcraft Water Pump years ago noticed the plastic fins eroded, won't have that problem ever again with the metalNever saw that until now and it definitely caused a spike in temp. Comparing SKP China Pump and OEM there is a difference in the fins and smoothness. Will be putting the OEM on in a week or two.
The OEM Jag WP is the best of them all.I found the metal water pump fins are way better on aftermarket waterpumps when changing out the OEM Motorcraft Water Pump years ago noticed the plastic fins eroded, won't have that problem ever again with the metal

Meaning LS Pump? Id agree as the original pump looked flawless when removed. The OEM Jag WP is the best of them all.
The biggest issue with the OEM/Jag pump would be bearing failure due to in -service length.Meaning LS Pump? Id agree as the original pump looked flawless when removed.
If it eroded id think it didnt have the proper coolant or changes.
