"Cash for Clunkers" puts the LS where is belongs

To some of us VCGs, hydraulic pump, Coils, plugs and window regulators are no big deal and a part of owning a car. To others those are major issues and qualify a car as being a POS.

Also +1. I believe any halfway-informed car shopper is going to notice that luxury cars have much higher associated costs, especially performanced-minded luxury cars.

The more i think about it most of the cars that i have seen with COP's, the LS is about the only one that has "covers" on them. I'm thinking maybe that design just allows them to trap heat and get fried.
4V 4.6s/5.4s have COP covers along with plenty of other 4V motors.

I would love it if these cars were more reliable(I have 15k on mine and have had 5 COPs replaced already) but overall they are not that trouble prone of a car. Check the forums of any car in the LS class including the Japanese and you will see they have there own problems too. Cars are machines designed by humans, parts wear out and people make mistakes and sometimes like rainjacks said :q:q:q:q happens

As far as the Clunkers program, i think its concept is good in regards to getting old gas guzzling cars off the road, but when you really examine it i think it has its issues. With the program you have to buy a brand new car, most people who own the cars that qualify are also the type of people who either dont want or cant afford a "new" car. I have my issues with it because you pretty much get stuck with a 4 cylinder and most of those models are plain boring cars. I could get by with a decent V6, but i will never own a four banger.
You think the LS has quality problems, let me know the quality of your car you receive from enrolling in this program 3 years from now! Oh, and the trade in value too! At least the LS holds some value, and the ride and quality of the car stays high compared to models with the same age, and milage.

Well if you mannaged to fit the service records in a 1st gen glove box :D
It must be a short list.

The extent of the previous owners items that needed to be replaced outside of oil changes and routine check ups is tires, so I think I got a good deal.

What kind of gas are you using, and how are you driving if you are only getting 18 mpg? I have a 2001 lsv8 and I am currently getting 23.8 mpg combined. Granted that I am using 93 octane without ethanol in it, and I pay a little more at the pump, but for 6 miles more to the gallon I will take it. I also bought my first ls three weeks ago, and I got lucky in the fact that it was a one owner california car that was owned by an older gentleman that took great care of his car. I know this because I have all of his service records in my glove box, and there hasn't been a single problem with the coils or anything else. How we take car of our cars has a great deal to do with what needs to be fixed on them.

Eeek I just filled up w/ premium and 10% ethanol because I was too far away from my usual station and I literally was about to run out of gas. The message center said I had 9 Miles to Empty!

Anyways, I did not realize it was an Ethanol station till I was already pumping... So I just said F it and topped it off... I think I can already feel the difference with the 10% versus the pure gasoline. I can't wait till this tank burns off >.<

ill take 4500$ for this POS...it isnt worth that at all lol.

the retarded thing is that you have to buy a 2009. not everyone can afford a 2009. just goes to show that the government doesnt want people out of debt

wow.

Good - finally someone who isn't just complaining like a girl and going to do something.

When are you going to trade it in? Pics of the new ride!

When my coils needed to be replaced, I went to Accel Brand aftermarket coils. Works great, although when I install the new engine, I'll probably go to a different Accel coil set-up and do some re-wiring!

And screw the clunkers for cash BS retarded idea.... Pay you now Tax you later. Total agenda idea.

Yep, yet another step towards the socialist regime brought to you by the obama abomination. What next, socialist healthcare? Oh, wait...

the original clunker plan was for American Cars only so as to help out the big 3, but foreign makers lobbyed congress and got it open to all makes. CarMax is not lobbying congress to change it to used vehicles too. That would help those who don't want a large payment. That's to say if they put more mony into the program since it ran out of money already.

I totally agree but use it or not it has already been done and we are going to pay. I am glad that I took advantage of the clunker program, the way I see it I got $4500 of my taxes back.

The LS is like a good women. Sexy, fun to drive, but still has days you wanna swear at it, and sell it. You may from time to time foam at the thought of a high end BMW, or Audi,....but in the end you know you can work with the LS, she's American, less expensive and fun to drive. You can get inside and work out the kinks and if you take good care of her, she'll take good care of you.

amen, i just drove my LS about 3 hours round trip to a IRL race last night. ride down there i wanted to kill the thing. ride back for some reason it was better and had me saying "your not so bad..."

Nearly bought a loaded 2010 Edge Limited (Navi + Vista Roof + 20" alloys) for $29,600 using the Clunkers yesterday, but decided to hold off. Am thinking of the new 2010 Equinox as well.

Who in their right mind would buy a Chevrolet right now?

Stick with the Edge, not a bad looking crossover.

Well, Chevrolet is at least one of the brands that will stick around in the new GM. The Equinox looks better, and the brakes are better too, IMO.

But do you really trust something made by the government? hell the government can't maintain an infrastructure let alone a car!

Where I live I can't find a station that sells pure gas, everything is 10% ethanol. As a matter of fact, there was recently an investigation because several stations were selling gas with as much as 80% ethanol (but still calling it 10%) causing peoples engines to fail. Is there a particular brand name that you know of that sells pure gas?

up in the northeast it seems to be 15% ethanol.

Deisel is only 2.50 per gallon too when regular grade fuel is 2.80 per gallon

My 05' "clunker" just got 26 mpg on road trip from Chicago to Mass. Think I'll keep it a while longer.

There are a lot of cars out there that i would consider clunkers, but LS ain't one of them, thats for sure.
