He already has a true dual setup. I was thinking of gutting mine as well, but more for the reason that mine are clogged and smell nasty sometimes when I get on it.

Did they used to make guitar strings from cat-gut?
I remember buying "test pipes" years ago at the parts store...for test purposes only;) to see if our cats were clogged......

Midbody mounted mufflers doesnt mean TRUE DAULS! I was thinking about doing that a while ago but there isnt much room and they would hang down.

did you see the pics i post on the above post W/ THE TWO midmount mufflers. i did it w/ spintech mufflers. spintech has thin square mufflers that will alow two midmount mufflers

I actually contemplated using glasspacks like that........
 
leave your cats alone! they are on the car for a reason. so it will pass emissions, if you wanna get rid of em then buy a whole new set-up.

I had my cats gutted in my other mk8 and it did not smell more then usual.

change your o2 sensor. that might help.
