CD ERROR... Word of warning to you all!!

Hey all,
Lastnight, I went to eject a cd out of the in dash 6-changer (gotd I hate these things!!) and it got all jamed and just said CD error and would not do anything!!

I finally got the CD out with a small tiney screw driver and a lot of playing around..

I think my problem was that the CD I put in there was a burned cd I made with one of those self adhesive lables on it that covers the whole thing. I know I prob should not have put it in there, but I have used them in the past with no issues so I figured what the heck... wont do that again!!

So as a word of warning if you have cd's with that type of label on it you may want to think 2x before putting it in there!!

I never really looked in the owners manual for an advisory on this. I'd be curios to know if they made one. I think I will check the pdf version. I use sharpies personally doesn't look as good but I can't see when it is installed.

CD units are designed to play commercially pressed 12 cm (4.75
in) audio compact discs only. Due to technical incompatibility,
certain recordable and re-recordable compact discs may not
function correctly when used in Ford CD players. Irregular
shaped CDs, CDs with a scratch protection film attached, and CDs
with homemade paper (adhesive) labels should not be inserted
into the CD player. The label may peel and cause the CD to
become jammed. It is recommended that homemade CDs be
identified with permanent felt tip marker rather than adhesive
labels. Ball point pens may damage CDs. Please contact your
dealer for further information.

I see you changed/reduced the degree of disgruntledness. Glad to see things are looking better. Not to change the subject but owning this car between 30k and 100k miles was a pure nightmare.

Yes, I got a letter from Ford saying exactly that.
Not to put home made CD with labels on them.

they sent a letter even. Yeah I did not get that memo must have been burrined under the one about the TPS reports fax cover sheet .

I instinctive just didn't ever do it. I have never been a fan of the press on labels. But i am just as guilty as teh rest for not completely RTFM

yeah i agree.. the labels suck. and I dont use them any more.. I think i got lucky this time.. I had a vision i was going to be taking apart the whole deck..

scary huh. I had to take my brothers apart that was in his Ford Explorer. The LEDs stopped working. I to do some soldering to get things working again. The hard part was getting it out becasue it has some locking mechanism that you need a key to unlock. I had to fabricate one using a coat hangar.

The new LS's actually come with a sticker on the front of the radio indicating not to use CD's w/ homemade labels.

For what it is worth, I've had very good luck (since I'm obstinate) removing "stuck" cd's by trying to put a new one in (push lightly of course!) after pushing the Eject button. Seems to give the old CD just enough traction to get out...

I had that happen to me like 3 times already, same problem, my cd had a sticker on it, and I've just had my car since march 27th

This may be a little off subject but...

How do you clean the disk changer? My 7 year old diskman (yes I am the only person who does not have an I-Pod and still uses cd players) does not skip as much as my changer.
