Has anybody ever tried to change the l.e.d.'s in there dash peices. I was thinking about trying it on my old factory deck before i try the climate control. Im pretty confident in my electronics knowledge and skills but i just wanted some input before i give it a shot.

like the green color in the dash? that would be awesome but i dont think its possible... i always wanted to make mine blue but i dont think they are leds, there like computer chips... who knos, if you can do it tho let me know! that would be cool

Computer chips don't generally emit light, light emitting diodes (LEDs) do though ;)

I changed the LED's in my old Pathfinder to bright blue and it looks real nice. I would tackle it in our LS as well but there are SO many green lights that it looks nice and uniform so I don't want to mess with it.

that looks good Quinton... what would i have to do to change all of the green lights in the whole dash to blue? are we looking at a complete waste of time or not?

My Pathy was easy. Just remove the dash and replace the 5-6 stock lights with blue leds. So you would first need to look up your PN's of all the stock lights and then see if this site (the one I got mine from) has them.
I believe it was www.superbrightleds.com

you are talking about replacing the green lighting behind the radio and climate control arent you? or just around the speedometer? and does anybody know the PN's to the stock lights and how many there are?

Yeah im talking about replacing behind the climate control. The stock radio is in my garage. So i can wire it up and work on that before i tackle something that i need to use. To my understanding and extensive research, there is what is called a electronluminecent panel that is solidered onto the circuit board and that is what lights up green. It comes in a sheet and you can break of what you arnt going to use and solider the other in on the board. So I am trying to locate one of these in blue or a whiteish blue. Ill make sure to let everybody know how this turns out.

If anybody has a climate control they can part with let me know. Thats probably a long shot though.

I think it would be time consuming, also will require a lot of nerves to do this conversion. Here are some pictures of the interior lights of BMW 330CI. I took em from BMW forum, this guy changed all of the orange LEDs that come on stock BMWs to blue, he says it took him 2 weeks to complete, but look at the results.

related to this topic, a few buttons on my radio and climate control are not lit anymore, and some are half-way lit, i'd like to restore this to original condition. do i have to replace the entire luminescent board?

You would probably need to replace the entire board. I might be interested in trading you for mine. All the lights light up on it. No sense tearing it apart to put it back to normal. PM me if your interested.

wow that blue in the BMW looks amazing... hopefully CP can come through on his and let us know how to do it...

Artur, why is that instrumentation on the passenger side? Rare import?

OHHH that blue is cumtastic! That is how I want my interior to light up. I miss my econo cars, everything was fairly simple. If you wanted a new inside color to the controls, tada finished lol.

important questions: Does the LS have Clear film behind the buttons, or is it a tinted green? ... does it use a regular bulb w/ the green condom?.. does it use green LED's?.. if it does use LED's,what size?
i guess, the only way to find out would be to take apart the things that light up.. but im way too lazy for that
If there is a green tint to the lighted up places you may end up with an ugly ass color, cuz it will be mixing with the green
i changed my green lights to blue on my previous car (elantra), i gotta say it look nice.. but im just not up for it on the LS

I think the widow switches and little stuff like that have L.e.d's but not the climate control. It is a green EL board. Behind the buttons are clear film. Im sure it would be real easy to do all the little stuff like the window switches but i want find the stuff to do th climate control and probably the gauges. I was just gonna settle for the climate control buttons untill i saw the BMW. Now i want to do it all in blue.

I will keep everybody posted when i get further along.
