check transmissiom message

after chasing a no start issue for days, i finally got it running only to get a check transmission message and an "E" at the gear indicator. idont know what that is and didn't have it a few days ago.
PLEASE HELP ME GET THIS CAR RUNNING RIGHT!!!!!

Solenoid pack needs replaced. have somone run a scan on the trans. see what codes you can pull.
 
Lol. Happened to me too. Does your ls shift past 3rd gear?
 
I didnt try to drive it since it didnt want to go forward. Wheres the solenoid located?
What code should i be looking for?

The dealer will have to read any codes. The solenoid pack is under the pan, inside the transmission.
 
Do a search for 55CrownVic. This will get you my post from early April about my transmission problem. Had a lot of responses from a lot of members. If you are getting the same codes as I did, the solenoid pack is at fault. Dealer charged me 89 dollars to do diags and get transmission codes. Once the pan is off, you can use a Vom meter to check the resistance of the solenoids. Hope this is your problem since it was an easy fix and not too expensive.
 
I work at a nissan dealer so the scan tool should be able to get codes. I hope! And anybody know about how much the solenoids go for?

A Nissan scan tool won't be able to read Ford specific codes. IIRC, the solenoid pack is ~$200. Not too bad a job; there is one bolt that's a bear to get. Having access to a lift will make refilling the trans MUCH easier!
 
well i drove car today, if i ease in to trottle if will drive and shift fine, if i step on it it goes NO WHERE!!! I read somewhere to disconnect tranny and shift in reverse to see if a valve was stuck, but didnt see a plug on tranny except right at bottom and when disconnect car shut off. wrong plug i assume....
Please tell me which plug im looking for.

did you ever find a fix to your problem? I have had the same issue for quite some time. Was curious if you isolated it to a coil issue or if it was indeed the solenoid pack. Without access to a lift I am just about at the point of eating this and taking it to a tranny shop to have them replace the pack. ~$600.

If your problem is the same as mine was-everything works, shifts good, etc. but keep getting check transmission and E message then most likely the solenoid pack. The torque conv. lock-up solenoid was partially shorted in mine. Don't need a lift, just put car up on a couple of ramps or jack stands. Once pan is off you can ohm out the solenoids from the bottom of the pack before you remove it from transmission. Don't remember which pins but I saved the old one and will check it tomorrow and let you know.

I had error code of p0743 which is torque conv. lock up solenoid circuit. Once pan is off you can see the solenoid pack and using an ohm meter you can check the solenoid for open or short. You can see the connector looking from the bottom. Two rows of 6 pins each. Counting from the front row and side of transmission it is pin 3. Back row is pin 4. Good solenoid will have 9 to 16 ohms. Mine was partially shorted and read 5.7 ohms. To get plug out of solenoid pack you will probably have to cut a 10mm box end wrench to about 2 3/4 inches long to be able to clear transmission hump. New sol. pack was 324.00 from Lincoln- ordered on line and picked up at dealer-cheaper than buying over the counter. You can get a fluid transfer pump to replace fluid from Harbor Freight for about 6 dollars. Makes it easy to add the fluid. Cured my problem and saved me 3500 bucks since dealer wanted to replace torque conv and tranny.
