A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until midnight CST
tonight. A Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect from midnight
tonight to 9 am CST Tuesday.
Snow will continue across central and eastern Minnesota through
mid-afternoon with snowfall rates being heavy at times. Rates
will approach one inch an hour during this afternoon... including
in the Twin Cities Metro area. Snowfall amounts of one to three
inches have been reported from this morning. One to three
additional inches are expected this afternoon. This will lead to
storm total snowfalls of three to six inches. The higher totals
are likely from the Twin Cities southward towards Owatonna. The
snow will end late this afternoon into early evening... however
northerly winds will increase in speed. Gusts of 30 mph or more
will lead to blowing and drifting of the fresh powdery snow
through this evening. In addition... much colder air on the
northwest winds will create dangerous wind chills by tonight
throughout the entire region. Wind chill readings of 25 to 35
below zero are expected from this evening through Tuesday morning.
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow and blowing snow means that
visibilities will be limited due to a combination of falling and
blowing snow. Use caution when traveling... especially in open
areas.
A Wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and strong winds
will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in
frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
