Im sure it will vary store to store but was wondering about anyone's experiences with them installing anything for you. Was thinking about them cuz I have the Eclipse avn 5495 and they sell eclipse HU's. Figured they'd know more then someone that doesnt carry the high end eclipse stuff.

Ive had nothing but a mix at my local Circuit City. Once it was good next it was bad and then they wanted to help me and it was even more bad, but afterward I had a friend that had a great time with them.

:D

I would say never take your car to Circuit City OR Best Buy, find a local shop that specializes in car audio, they are usually cheaper, faster and do an overall better job. I've seen some crazy hack jobs come from best buy + circuit city.

Look and see what other cars are being worked on. If you see beat up Toyotas or minivans, chances are you'll get a hackjob done by some wannabe installer.

In my experience, the higher-end shops are the best because they cater to folks that have higher expectations on the installs (e.g., guys that drive Jags, Benzes, etc.). If you want a really clean installation, find a good custom shop with high end cars in the installation area, and avoid the big box stores.

I work for CC and am an installer, like people say look at what kind of shop they are running, i know at my shop in chicago we dont have any hack jobs done but ive seen some fixes come from other cc's that work on old beaters or hoopdys as we like to call them. the nice thing about CC workman ship is that its covered for as long as you own the car and you can take it to any cc if theirs any problems. I would check it out, but if you have any questions now i could give you some answers. and if you have any questions about eclipse im the on to ask , since i have an eclipse nav and know almost anything about their units... im a eclipse freak lol

Thanks for the info. The circuit city in my area does alot of hi end vehicles. Palo Alto California. Im not looking at getting anything special done but the place that installed my AVN 5495 did a nice clean job and programmed the steering wheel controls. Worked great for a few months but then the controls worked off and on and I have a short that has my subs cutting on and off. Worse in cold weather. I tracked it to what the shop is calling the remote module for the steering wheel controls. Doesnt make sense. Hate to hijack my own thread but if you wanna add anything Id appreciate it Mexican3001.

I worked at Circuit City 10 years ago. When It was time to get the remote start installed in the LS, that is where it went. It took them twice as long as they thought (9 hours) but it works great.

the shop told you that the steering wheel controls are causing a short? when you got the controls did you get a universal one? i assume its a PAC steering wheel controls, if so the universal one is SWI-X and the eclipse specific one is SWI-ECE. I doubt thats causing your problem with the subs cutting in and out. do you see at any time the protection light on the amp turn out? one sub might be on its way to blownsville, one voice coil might be burnt up, what kind of subs/ and amp are you running?

Mexican everything is stock but the HU. Shop didnt tell me anything. I crawled under the dash and found a little round thing with a cable going in and a cable going out. When I moved it the subs would cut on and off. They didnt actually see what I was talking about but assumed I guess that it was going to the steering wheel control. Im pretty sure its a PAC unit but not sure of the model. When it was first intalled it worked great though. Car is in the shop at Circuit City right now. I went very cheap for now on sub subs and amp. MTX somethings that came with an amp and enclosure. Its really in the shop to get the short fixed and run the cables. Ill change out the speakers and amp myself later but will let you guys know how it sounds anyway.

i think you might have been tugging on the rca's. what did the shop say?

Naaw Mexican I wasnt tugging on anything and it definitely wasnt going to the RCA wires. I didnt talk to the guy that installed my new stuff but his assistant and he told me the way the other shop wired the subs he was surprised they lasted as long as they did. Basically a hack wire job to keep the stock system functional. I went with a cheap setup from Circuit City just to get the wiring done. I know how to do any and everything myself stereo wise but dont have the time and would rather pay for the convenience. I was surprised with the sound out of the Magna 12's in a cheap box with the Magna amp. Basically MTX 's entry level stuff Im told. Speakers might not last but for 150 bucks who could complain. Small box with decent bang. Speaks well for the trunk of the LS. Still need to get the steering wheel controls fixed. Ill post pics later.
