Anybody done this yet? Any suggestions for a good replacement? Let me know how difficult of a job this would be.

Thanks

Steve

When I changed mine...the OEM was the only one available as I really wanted one that was stronger...mine disintegrated to dust! The job isn't hard at all...follow the manual instructions but you don't need the torquing wrenches as they suggest...the driveshaft will move out of the way without any problem. Good luck. My only problem was reconnecting the line for the slave cylinder but no big deal.

I hope you're not suggesting that he not follow Lincoln's torque specs. If that's what you're saying, that's some really bad advice...

No No. I recommend that he does NOT have to acquire the Rotunda specialty tool -torquing wrenches- to push the driveshaft back....there is enough movement in the slip joint themselves. Torque specs are ALWAYS necessary to follow...evey nut and bolt has a torque spec that MUST be followed. When you see the manual in the section for transmission removal, you will see what I am talking about regarding the Torquing Wrenches...these have NOTHING to do with following TORQUE SPECS.

How many miles are these failure occuring in?

I'm at 85,000 and would like to know if they are failure prone.

I have never gotten less than 180,000 on my clutch cars or trucks (some driven most of their lives in NYC) and I hoping for more than that since I now mostly drive on the highway.

WOW! I wouldn't call 85K failure prone. That's good service life. 180K is not the norm...I would say you treat your clutches very, very well and know how to properly drive them.

I am in the middle of replacing mine at just over 100k miles. However, someone at Exedy told me that the flywheel must be replaced at the same time. Can anybody confirm this?

It's recommended that you replace it as dual masses are super hard to resurface but there was a guy on this forum that had a (IIRC) neighbor that had a shop in his garage and was able to resurface his.

Around 110-140k miles seems normal life for clutches for the LS from what I've seen.

Also, there seems to be a rash of new manual transmission LS owners on this site which is simply AWESOME!

I have 140,000 on mine with the original clutch and no problems.

That's awesome! What year?

My clutch was on it's way out at just over 100k but the noticeable issue was actually the pressure plate springs which was allowing the clutch to slip after it was in gear.

Don't want to say anything but I'm now at 138K with no problems.

Everyone is changing the trans fluid at the recommended 60K right?

My LS is a '00, bought it with 7100 miles on it.

BTW, I am changing the fluid in the gearbox every 20,000. Simple enough to do and only takes about a quart.
