Coolant Crossover Pipe.

What's the best way to get this off. I already cracked it and it still won't budge. Any suggestions?
 
I assume you removed the bolts. I just rocked it back and forth while carefully prying it up with a pry bar. It's a pain if it hasn't been off in a long time.
 
The only bolts I see are the two on the intake manifold/alternator. Are these the only ones?
 
Yes, just wiggle it back and forth, try a small squirt of pb blaster, and gently pry up using the straight bottom side of the forward running pipes...don't pry too close to the bend where it goes down to the heads, it's weaker there and you can puncture it

you will HAVE to replace the orings, I suggest replacing all 3 while it's out. The 3rd is in the sleeve that connects both pieces of crossover together
 
they come out real easy if you put a piece of wood under each corner where the tab comes off to bolt it to the intake, if you place a piece of wood under each corner and tap the end of the wood with a hammer working back and forth they come right out even if they have been in since the ice age!
 
Are there any sensors in the crossover pipe I should be concerned about?
 
there are most likely two sensors, might as well replace them when you put your new crossover pipe on..... you are getting a new one right??
 
New is $275 from motorcraft under mustang parts. I will probably buy used. Are the sensors in the crossover pipe or the engine? Not sure how replace these.
 
on the pipe, you replace them with a wrench, you will see and be able to remove the sensors when the pipe is off. what you should do is go to a junkyard and take one off. then get it sandblasted, check for any leaks and get them brazed.... then get it powdercoated and have all the o rings replaced before you put it back on, got any pics of your car?
 
No pics yet. This is my 2nd mark. My first was a 94 Mark VIII and a Mark VII before that. This one needs a little work and hopefully I can get my hands on some cobrastars to top it all off.
 
I think you've got a gen 2, and if so, you've only got one sensor. Gen1's had 2 sensors. I'll sell you a bead-blasted crossover tube for $50 shipped.
 
Holy crap...those things are that expensive? I've had several I just threw or gave away
 
I got the old crossover out using pb blaster, a wooden wedge, and a rubber mallet. I installed a new one from a 98 cobra. Since the cobra crossover has two sensors, neither that are compatible with the gen 2 mark viii, I had to replace the passenger side sensor with a mark vii sensor. I used some anti-seize above the o-rings and used the rubber mallet to hammer the new one in. It fit right it and everything matched up perfectly.
I filled the coolant from the crossover cap and used some more anti-seize for easy removal later. Thanks for the help.
