If anyone is keeping count, add me to the list of folks that had their coolant outlet pipe split at the seam. I'm going to go ahead and replace the other plastic part around it, thermostat, hoses, belt, degas bottle, and so on while I'm at it.
2004 LS V8 at about 110K miles.

Yup,add me too. Mine had actually been leaking for a while and didn't notice where it was coming from :slam . I just changed it last week. 80 freaken bucks cause they dont only sell the center tube but sell it a unit with the two elbows attached to it.

Yup, welcome to the club. I replaced my coolant outlet pipe and upper radiator hose(plastic) this summer. I probably should have also replaced my degas bottle(NOW LEAKING) and probably the OTHER coolant outlet pipe, there are two on top of the engine, different part number.

BTW Gen 1 and Gen II engines have different cooling system parts and are not interchangeable so be sure what you get.

I hate plastic engine parts.

Looks like the LS is one of thise cars where related components fail around the same time. Looks like the cooling system plastic parts die at about the same mileage. Last time I had this kind of car was 30+ years ago, a Datsun truck where you had to replace all the hoses every 25,000 miles or sure as heck one of the hoses you didn't replace would blow within a thousand miles.

I've not had any trouble in this regard, so I've paid no attention to the parts your referring to. But my immediate reaction is that it should be possible to replace the plastic parts with metal. Copper pipe with soldered joints, and bulk hose might make the whole problem disappear. I only have 141K miles on my '02 LS

The plastic parts on the gen II are considerably more complicated than the pictures that I have seen of the gen I. The coolant outlet pipe is not really a pipe, but more like a manifold that seals against the engine and intake manifold in three places at once. To make that work in metal, you would just about have to cast some of it. It looks like the gen I parts just attach to hoses.

joe give me a call with your vin and I price the parts out for you. I have a lot of illustrations about this on the ls forum so we can compare the p/n's

You already sold me the parts and I installed them months ago, but thanks for thinking of me...

I should add that I received the window regulator yesterday. Thanks again.

Joe---

Thanx for the insight---I have enough trouble with my gen1, to say nothing of adding complications. I AM going to have to do some crossbreeding/fabricating when I go to the AJ 27 engine with its own design of intake manifold, etc.

$200 for 01V6

mine split at the seam too, $200 at dealer, all hoses attached!!!!!! Next time I'll try some PVC glue and pipe to fix it.

keeping my fingers crossed. All hoses and every part of my cooling system is still OEM original at 8 years and 124k miles. (except the degas bottle..replaced that a couple years ago)

Joe... wheres the pics :D

Here's some of one of the parts that I hadn't thrown out yet.

Thats the one that is currently leaking on mine. Thats the one that goes right nest to/under the throttle body right?

Yes, just under and nest (I mean next) to the throttle body.

Yup, thats the one. Hard to take off? I was looking at it the other day and it seemed like the bottom bolts would be tricky to get to

I didn't really have any trouble with them. I had to take one of the throttle body heater hoses off to get to one of the bolts.

ok. Doesn't sound bad then. How much was that part?

I don't remember off-hand. It was about $500 worth of parts at once. (That part, the front housing, thermostat, about four hoses, degas bottle, and belt.)
I got it all from Max.
Note that you may need to replace the belt if coolant has leaked on it.

I just changed the belt after I fixed the pipe with the bigger leak about 2 months ago. I'll remember to keep the coolant from getting on the belt. What other hoses cracked on yours? So far this is the only one leaking on mine. Debating if I should just change them or wait

The top radiator hose had a hairline crack in the plastic Tee in the middle. I also had to replace one of the small hoses up top because part of the outlet pipe was stuck inside it. I replaced the lower radiator hose because it has a big plastic piece in the middle of it and I figured it would probably crack soon too.

That's the part number for the coolant outlet pipe (Gen II), right? I need to replace mine too. Seems like some type of "cap" blew off from the side. Does the new coolant outlet pipe include the 3 "o" rings?
