Coolant Outlet Pipe - cracked

That's the part number for the coolant outlet pipe (Gen II), right? I need to replace mine too. Seems like some type of "cap" blew off from the side. Does the new coolant outlet pipe include the 3 "o" rings?

You have to order them separately (from Ford anyway).

The p/n and price is the same. You have to get the o rings separatly. This is the GOLD member price. If you are interested Ill get a quote done for you.

I was changing out the thermostat housing on mine and rounded the nuts on the back side that hold the bolts for the housing in place today :(....soooo not a happy camper cause now I have to figure out how to get the damn bolts out!!! Anybody run into this issue before or have some kind of insight as to how tot tackle this?

What nuts did you round? I don't remember any nuts holding the thermostat housing on. The holes on the outlet pipe should be threaded to accept the bolts for the thermostat housing. See this picture:

I think you mean the threaded inserts in the coolant outlet pipe. They are spinning because the plastic of the outlet pipe has softened and will fail soon. You don't need to get them out. You need to replace the coolant outlet pipe, thermostat, and thermostat housing. You can get your new thermostat out by breaking the old plastic apart after you remove the whole assembly.

That P/N 3w4z-8548-ad lists for 72.00 and gold price is $42.12 plus shipping..oh you will need the 3 "O" rings too....and additional 14.00 plus shipping.

Joe I picked up on this old thread....then I realized that we had done this before. Thank you for the recomendation for parts and happy to hear that you recd yours in good order.[/QUOTE]

I know that I am sometimes a little slower than most, But I just relized that the Gold member price discount (one year) is the same amount as just that one part!! I see a definate reason to go gold!!! Whats the whole coolant job Gold discount?

that's exactly what happened. I have the new thermostat and housing already, but upon trying to take out the old one, I didn't wait for the car to cool down and thus spun them. I haven't touched the car since then because I'm trying to locate a replacement coolant outlet pipe.

Thanks...I'm gonna go ahead an get this right now...hopefully I can get the gaskets at auto zone.

I wouldn't count on it. You can't get the parts there so it's highly unlikely you can get the seals or gaskets there. Just order them from the same place you're getting the parts.

Yes, very unlikely. Unfortunately, it's not like these are just normal round o-rings. Often the gaskets are reusable, but not always. It's too much work to take the chance of having to do it over again the next day when something leaks.

well I guess this is my lucky day...they had the gaskets and they'll be in tomorrow! lucky me lol...they'll actually be here before the part shows up which is good because I'll be able to ensure that they're correct.

Wow. Good to know.

My outlet tube/pipe just broke yesterday (2002 V8 with 156k miles..Im original owner).
I purchased the part..is there a writeup or is it literally as simple as removing those 4 bolts. Special tool required? Thanks

just replaced the part and upon putting the coolant back in, I had the car sitting at idle for 5-10 min. Went inside during this time, came back out and the car had overheated. Any idea's as to what it could be?

Going to need more info, but you didn't mention bleeding the coolant so that should be the first thing you do. You've taken apart the cooling system and introduced a ton of air. Follow the proper procedure for bleeding the coolant.

ok. got ya...so basically go through the entire bleed process again from the start. Will do and I'll update what happens.

This is the correct process for your gen II.

Note that you have to follow this to the letter. This means that you will have to now drain some of the coolant out and wait for the engine to cool down completely.

(You can still fix it without doing that, but it is much more difficult, and may take days to get all the air out.)
