Good morning first time threader...... if that is the proper term??
My problem is where to get replacement composite tank that goes from cylinder heads to top radiator hose/ also who has and what is best manual... for LS? Thank You, Guy

How about some info on what year you have and which engine?
Better yet you could read the first few threads and search a little.
It's official name is degas bottle.
You can get it from you local Ford/Lincoln dealer, or from an on-line Ford dealer. Alternately, if you like doing the job over and over, you can buy a Dorman or similar from your local auto parts store.

thank you I found it from 1AAuto for 54.95. It is a 2002 Lincoln LS 3.9 V8
I appreciate the reply. Again thanks, Guy

I take that this is a used degas bottle?
It's a wear item. They all fail after some number of cycles or years. You'll be doing this again soon.

sounds like the tank you order that arrives in worse condition that the broken bottle its trying to replace...

I think I bought my degas bottle for 2004 LSV8 for about $100+- from Rock Auto last year. Also had one several years ago from a dealer for something like $150.

Fairly easy to replace.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

The one from 1AAuto is made by Dorman. I called them and they confirmed this. Even though the add says that it replaces that maker. Kinda fishy if you ask me.

You can get them on ebay by searching for : 5W4Z-8A080-AA. they should run at the cheapest from the dealers on there from about $160-$200+. Look for the ads that mention OEM or that they are a Ford Dealer.

I just purchased a new on from a Ford Dealer selling parts on ebay. I opted to go with OEM because I don't want to have to redo this in months. I will be putting in my new parts this weekend.

Rock auto isn't carrying the degas bottle currently.

Dealer has it for approx. $150 comes with the hoses but not the cap.

The Lincoln Dealership wanted $300 when I was there last week for my overheating issue. bastidos! Always kicking someone while they are down.

Was that with labor or just for the part?

That was just the degas. They wanted $900 to do the degas bottle and thermostat. They told me my fan was working fine even though it wasn't kicking into high even when forced by the AC being turned on. They wanted to charge me $1800 to replace the fan. They didn't like when I questioned them about why I would replace a fan that they just advised was in working order.

I advised them to bring me my car. LOL

That's still not really answering the $300 question.
Was it:

1. $300 for them to replace your degas bottle (only). - This was a reasonable (good) deal. [part + labor]

-or-

2. $300 for them to just hand you a new degas bottle and you do the replacing. - This would be a bad (but not horrible) deal. [part only]

Sorry........$300 to place the degas bottle in my hand and I do the replacing.

yeah. I actually said to the Lincoln Advisor at the dealership, in the lobby infront of a few peoples grandparents: "FVCK THAT SH!T!" lol.

I ended up buying it from a Ford Dealership on ebay. I should have it on Thursday.

Using that language doesn't help your cause. And being proud of it??? No wonder society is going down the toilet..... No respect for others.....

It was a knee jerk reaction. I'm not sure that saying "gee-wilikers, golly sir that price is mighty high" would have helped or what it should have helped. Can you feel me rolling my eyes at your judgements? Its a good thing I live in a country where I have free speech.

And here I thought you lived in the United States. I guess it makes sense that there would be a Tampa in other countries too...

Lol. I'm in Florida. It does seem like its a separate country of its own sometimes though.

Wow, labor sure is inflated now a days.

Replacing the degas and the thermostat is pretty much a simple job that can be handled by anyone who is able to change disc brake pads.

The problem with the thermostat is that you probably will need to replace the thermost AND the housing. The plastic housing has a couple "ears" inside that the tstat requires to work. They snap off after about 80,000 miles. The two parts cost around $80 each if I recall. What a weird design. On my old chebby and every other car I have owned, you just dropped the tstat in place, the Ford requires you to screw it in place and it will NOT work without the ears.

The degas is pretty easy. Hardest part is getting at the hose fitting for the long piece, which btw, the factory already has attached for good reason. Take a good look and find the opposite end of the long hose and that will be the hardest part to remove. After that every thing just weasles out.

BTW, some guys had recommended one of those cable operated spring clamp tools to remove the hose clamps. I bought one of those from NAPA last year. For me it doesn't make things much easier. Instead I really like the long curved nose needle nose pliers they sell, or a good Channel lock if it will fit.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

Put it back together as it was build stock from the factory other than the JAG upgrade Thermostat housing, no gasket sealer was needed. Surfaces were cleaned off and rings inspected and reused. Took my time and ensure everything was tighten down to spec and revisited majority of the hardware a week or so later for an extra little turn to the right, no leaks, successful bleed on the first go. You need a Lincoln LS thermostat inside that JAG housing due to it's specific pressure release rating. I used the rings that came with the JAG stat housing, didn't seem much different from the stock other than new. Reused ring gaskets on the inlet tube also.

^ just got back from the dentist's, still feeling a little wacky! Apologies if something didn't convey properly.
