Am looking for whatever powers most of the electrical in the LS, (instrument lights, cluster, windows, trans, fuel etc) I believe it is the REM? Referring to this post I just read:
Parasitic draw 2000 LS 3.9
Back in the spring it rained for weeks straight and having to drive one day in a bad storm I shut the car off and upon turning it back on within 10mins I had no power steering, nor interior lights or external lights.. a couple seconds later it all kicked back in after driving off about 50ft (I assume water got in somewhere) I basically had a running engine and gears only. Never happened again..
Now its a drought and after pulling the trunk plug a month ago to avoid pooling of water again under the battery side of trunk I assume whatever took on water corroded up possibly now causing my issue to resurface. (Had a bad leak finally realized it was the seam sealer that cracked).
As of this week - Day 1 - rear driver door ajar is stuck on. Nothing can shut it off until it went away on its own. Day 2 - im suddenly unable to start the car twice as it just died. Day 3 - car running and the chime and warning lights are delayed along with the cluster guages all delayed from activating. Day 4 - the cluster is totally dead, all interior instrument lights dead, sunroof unresponsive, ebrake stuck on, transmission unresponsive to any gear PRD, all I have is a running engine somehow. Upon a couple starts it kicks back on normally. Just everythings delayed if you will.. and it chooses what it wants to delay when it wants.
Im looking at REM (I believe its in the battery corner which would make sense). FEM, near drivers kick panel though I have No leak, PCM which I believe its behind passenger kick panel. Unsure if cluster can control all of this or even ignition/key related though I doubt. Manual says both REM & FEM control front and rear lights, unable to find a true list for each. Sunroof is listed nowhere. I have NO codes either, per forscan fem & rem are clean.
This place seems to be still fixing modules but is pricey:
Lincoln-LS Multi Function Module Front Electronic & Rear Electronic Module Repair
I thought there was one on ebay that will check them for $40 or something?
Battery tested good, am cleaning the terminals, ground connection to body as well as sealing the trunk and painting it this week. It just happened to break at the same time. Am starting with pulling all the fuses in the trunk and cleaning/checking REM Pins. Just unsure how to actually "check" the module itself. Is it suppose to get hot?
This NEVER happens on a cold start nor while running. It is always after the car is off for 5-10mins and trying to turn it back on still warm. In the past the 1st hot days of the year always made something similar act up. Today an unseaonally 90 degrees of course and it was the worst symptoms yet. It sounds to me like a module is faulty and the expanding/contracting causes it to act up..
