Custom Wood Grain Dash Progress - Pics Inside!

He said that it looks light cause of the flash of the camera.

hmm well dont really like it, i guess is cuz the black interior but its a great job your doing, maybe after you finish i can take another look, or maybe if the color was a little bit darker.

i love it. i want to do something like that but with a completely different color from the norm. i know you've mastered the process and if you'd be willing to share the process many here (including me) can have a project for a weekend. i will probably end up messing it up but it's the process that makes it fun ;-)

i'm sure its much better when you're riding in the car.

looks great.. how did u do it? actually.. i rather just wait for the write up.. great work!

Bringing up an old one. But I want to do this with my car. Did you post a write up already? Take some pictures now since I bet this is already finished.

I first laid down a reddish brown flat base coat. Then I brushed on leather brown acrylic paint. While the paint is still fresh and wet, lay some saran wrap over the piece and push it on. Then peel it off. You can also use a plastic grocery bag that is crumbled up and "sponge" it. Clear coat it and put it back in.

Pretty durable. I used auto body clear coat so it's the same as the paint job on the outside, as far as protection.

I was thinking of veneering my interior pieces. Maybe with a rosewood or zebrawood, then finishing them, But I never got around to doing it.

I work in a wood/cabinet finishing shop too, so I have access to all this stuff. Nice pics.

He is basically faux finishing his interior parts. It is pretty simple, you just have to get the hang of it.
Here's a job I did turning MDF into fake woodgrain to match a clients sample. I'm not even that good at it, the best of the best will make it look realer than wood lol
=P

Almost finished!

Wow, definetly unique.

b34nz, that is some very impressive work on MDF! I'm on the retail end of the cabinet industry, but have never seen that done before... I realize I'm posting 6 months after the fact, but oh well.
