DDM HID Kit (Anyone who has knowledge of them...)

Congrats on the install. Just hope they hold up. DDM has been a nightmare for me to deal with. Next time I am just getting the cheapest eBay kit I can find since that is what DDM actually sold me in the first place with mark-up.

Wow, really? I hope that's not the case for me as well...

Quite a few guys on here recommended them to me, so I thought they were a solid kit.

Glad to see you got them working. Looks real good and bright. Like the color of them too. I still suggest a relay for them. You might see why later on at first strike. One might not come on but if that does happen, just turn them off and right back on again. It will usually strike the 2nd time. I had that problem with a Xentec kit I bought once and then some other slim ballast kit, even with a relay but not once with the Kensun kit. These come on and waste very little time at all heating up. Quickest kit I have ever had. They cost a little more than most but seem to be worth it.

Again, yours look really good!

So, question on bulbs.

How long do they generally last? Once they go out, how do you replace them? Meaning, do I need to order replacements from DDM and wait 2 weeks to get them from China? Or are they universal on the hookup to the ballast end.

I'm not sure what others have done
But when I ordered my ddm kit I ordered 2 spare bulbs at the same time.

You can order replacement HID bulbs off eBay or wherever. I have 3 sets of bulbs from different places. I have flashed my highs so many times, it's not even funny and I mean that as in just setting there and flashing them off and on fast. That was over 2 years ago and those same bulbs and the lows are working fine. I would say they last a while but like everything else, it can fail. I would definitely have some extra ones on hand and keep them in the glove compartment or something. That's another reason I wanted my highs to be HID too because if one of my lows ever goes out, I always have 2 extra ballasts and 2 extra bulbs that I can swap with.

I had an issue with one of my bulbs not lighting when I first installed them (vvme hid kit) and it turned out to be the same problem, the connector was plugged in wrong eventhough there was no correct way of plugging it in..so I unplugged and flipped it around and it worked fine. As far as longevity goes, id order at least one spare just as peace of mind..mine are two years old and going strong. My kit took so damn long to arrive from china I called and complained..I asked them to refund some of the shipping cost but they instead offered to send a free replacement bulb with the kit. So it worked out perfectly.

I've bought 5 or 6 sets of HID's (all 55w) from DDM with no trouble so far. I haven't had a single flip-flop wiring incident to date.

Along with that, my very first set was on my white 97 for nearly 4 years (until I scrapped the car) with no incidents whatsoever. I always kept it on "Auto-lamp" and I never had any failed starts. They always lit up the first time, every time...

Just for information's sake, I soldered on OEM Motorcraft plugs and double heat-shrinked the soldering points. Maybe that helps, or maybe I'm just lucky...

Sweet, thanks guy! Sorry, just got off work.

Yeah, like a day after I placed the order a light bulb (no pun intended) went off in my head and I realized I should have probably ordered backup bulbs lol.

Thanks for the link too NoLimit, I'll add that to my watch list. That's a great deal at $12 for a pair! Cheaper then buying normal bulbs from AZ lol.

Lamps from anywhere. I had a set that lasted about 5 years. I still have the set sitting on a shelf from the Mark VIII.

I just got a kit off Amazon with numerous high reviews. Guaranteed easy refund if it turned out to be junk and two day free shipping rather than 3 weeks "shipping almost costs more than the product". Cleaned the headlights so they aren't foggy/too yellow anymore, adjusted best I can, new halogen bulbs, and I still can't really see much and I'm tired of it. I'd like to start seeing SOMETHING at night. These headlamps sure look pretty neat but man what a terrible design from a engineering standpoint.

I would go ahead and get a relay harness for the kit too so that equal power is thrown at both bulbs at the same time, rather than the first ballast getting it and then putting it over to the next one. They aren't high dollar or anything but they really do the job by providing adequate power to both ballasts and then to the bulbs. Once you have it all connected and working, tuck it all away nicely and you'll love it.

I have a DDM set on the shelf for a year now just when my OEM HID go out. I have 172k now and for an almost 17 year old car, I think the OEM bulbs have done their job. I hope these aftermarket are half as good as OEM.

I did have two aftermarket hid sets which I don't remember the name of which only lasted 2-3 years, so I hope the quality of these are better than that.
