Thanks to all of you who helped me out with my problems in a former thread, dead on road. Consensus is I have to replace the alternator on the 95 with 90K miles. I was able to run a test using one of those hand held jobbies that gives you a code. Code translated as EGR sensor voltage too high or too low. Before I start fooling with the alternator can anyone tell me if a bad EGR sensor would cause the car to stall? From what I gather on the internet search for EGR sensor it has something to do with emission control. Just a quick refresh, twice in the past ten or 12 days the car would sputter going down the road, antilock brake warning light would come on, all analog gauges would drop to zero, car would stall and only start with a jump. The fine intelligent people on this forum have indicated bad alternator as the culprit. Only reason I'm asking for a little more feedback is the code, EGR sensor, and the fact that the car has only done it twice and is currently running fine. Wouldn't an alternator either be good or bad? As opposed to OK sometimes, not so OK the next. My wife's that way but the alternator???

i can answer this one.. i had the SAME exact problem, the idiot light on the ABS would come on when it quit charging... changed the alternator and everythings working great.. thank you guys on here for helping me out too!!!

I don't know about the EGR but everything you are saying is what happened to me in my 94 Mark VIII that Scott9050 now has and my 93 Mark VIII while my wife was driving. Replace the Alt in both and had no more problems.

I was able to get my 93 Mark VIII back home by jumping my 93 and allowing it to charge for a bit then run it until the Battery lost its charge.

If you have a volt tester you can see if your alt is charging your system. If you are not getting around 14 volts it is your alt.

the egr code could just be a result of the computer going crazy.......when the alt stops working everything starts acting funny because it doesn't have the proper voltage to function
