Deleting the 2 front cats?

Just keep the cats and get 2 1/2 true dual. Why do people wanna cut the front cats off you'll need that back pressure for that not so modded car.

Too late, the cats are gone ;) And I must say, after inspecting the cats, I am glad they are gone, wow what a resistance!!

I did read the codes:
177:Oxygen sensor not switching - system is or was lean - Single, Right or Rear HO2S - Fuel control
172:Oxygen sensor not switching - system was rich Left or Front HO2S - Fuel control
332: EGR did not open/respond during test or if memory code, did not open intermittantly - EVR or PFE

We did not touch the sensors, they are exactly placed on the same spot as before, only difference now is that instead of cats below the sensors, there is now new fully open pipe.

Very strange, it reads both lean and rich ?
Does anyone have answer to this "mystery"?

my drivers manifold

Here are some pics of my modded drivers manifold. I have the exact dimensions and bends the pipe needs, and if anyone would like i have a extra drivers manifold that i can make another with. BTW i live in WI, and have no evap erg or cats:shifty: lmao

Not really. You need proper scavenging and exhaust velocity. Basically you need a crossover pipe and you don't wanna do something dumb like 3.5 inch pipes. The cats are basically good for nothing(except the air):D

On my car I've only got 2 super high flow cats that you can see through. If not for needing to worry about emissions inspections I'd have no cats.

Now that's different.

Thanks, we did the same mod, and get "Check engine" light on... We also made it "true dual 2 1/5 all the way back with 2 Rexton mufflers".
Do you get the "Check engine" light?

I am still trying to find out why this happens in my car/exhaust and what I can do about it?

c.e.l

yup cel but its a bunch of codes, like no evap signal, no egr signal, blah blah blah. here is what u do, grab a butter knife stick it dead center under the unit with the buttons and lights above the radio, the economy and and range status ............. u know and pry straight up until you can get you fingers under it. than pushing towards the hood lift up.once you get it out unplug the two connectors by pushing in on the little tab on each, take the second bulb out i think "double check before by looking at it with the key on before removal" just twist the bulb counter clockwise and throw in the glove box. replace piece and enjoy:shifty:

than if you want you can just stop at any auto zone or o'rileys and get scanned for free like every couple of oil changes.

If you removed the cats, where did you connect the EGR pipe?

I'm guessing that's why you have an EGR code.

That's some unique pipe you used.... :D

I have scanned it and the codes are as I wrote, and FYI here in Iceland we dont have O´Rileys etc, just the importer and of course other garages who can read the codes.
But thanks anyway :D

We just blocked it....does that matter? I dont have to think about emissions control etc as the car is 1995 and older. Here only the cars from 1996 and newer are under this law.

Another thing:
"Does it matter if the CEL is turned on? What effect does it have?"

If you just blocked off your EGR its going to set off codes related to EGR. Here in USA ,where I live you cannot get an inspection sticker for the car with a CEL on.

OK, so you recommend us to weld it back on the new pipe?
- could this cause all 3 error codes?

We did not expect this to be so important, just if it was emission related, and I don't have to worry about that

Your EEC4 engine control checks all sensors and such to make sure ALL are well. Any sensor you mess with will have repercussions. I would fix EGR then go from there. I sure as heck hate checking trouble codes on EEC4. I think I read they finally have code scanner that counts flashes for you and just gives code # now. Also did you remove ALL O2's to do this exhaust work then reinstall when chopping and welding was done.? I just want to make sure you didn't "poison" the O2 sensors.

Do I have EEC4 engine control in my car? (Mark VIII 1995)
My car only has 2 O2 sensors. One in front of each front cat.
We cut the cat off just beneath the O2 sensors, we did not touch the sensors at all. We don't be leave the sensors are damaged, but we cant be sure. Many say to us, it should not change anything and should not turn the CEL on, but unfortunately it does....
I know moving the sensors away from the new pipe will foul the computer, but wanted to hear from you guys if anyone has done this. It worked very well for my Audi TT 2000.
Will the A/f ratio be off if the CEL turns on?
Or does it not matter?

Yes you are EEC4. I did everthing you did when I did my exhaust and I don't get any CEL's at all.My car is a 1993 same EEC4 as you. The 2 and only O2's on your car control A/F. This is where I like OBD11 over EEC4. With OBD11 you can read all your engines sensors live time and see what your O2's are seeing/doing. And again OBD11 is Gen2 and 1996 only.

Thanks for your thoughts on this.
Yes it is very strange why I get the CEL, I will go to the Importer (Ford/Lincoln) and ask them to read the sensors, I did it my self by jump wiring. Maybe the sensors are gone/defect?
I will also weld the EGR pipe.

Is the A/F ratio wrong if the CEL turns on or...?
I just know that under full throttle or heavy load the ECM resorts back to its factory settings and does not use the O2 sensor to calibrate the A/F Ratio.

So the engine is in no danger, but will the mixture be to rich and my fuel consumption will be worse?

You read the codes by jumper wire then the dealer won't tell you anything new. The problem that I see is your O2's where fine(no CEL) before you messed with exhaust. Now you have CEL so it is most like caused by something that was just done to car. IE exhaust work and or any new mods you did. Also are all your welds 100% sealed? When you chopped exh did you use sawzall and spray lube on cutting blade that might have got onto O2?

Yes true, I did not cut the cat of, but I will ask the guy who did it. Maybe he did damage the sensors, that must be the case. I will just in case order new ones.
The question then is, where should I buy them from?

your c.e.l is because of you unhooked egr, I JUST USED A BLOCKER PLATE "HOMEMADE ON A BENCH GRINDER" WITH SOME HIGH TEMP SEALER. I replaced both o2's, i had old junkers i used for mock up, also the passenger side o2 is below the flange so i hope you still have that as well. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, YOU MUST HAVE A O2 ON BOTH PIPES WITHIN 8-10" OF THE BOTTOM OF THE MANIFOLD. BESIDES THAT JUST POP THAT BULB OUT AND DRIVE W/O THAT ANNOYING GLARE!!!!!! Also the light does nothing if not there, the car will even scan with it out. Don't forget 4-2 down shifts are detrimental at wide open throttle, so just take the time to pop that od button manually before full pedal at hwy speeds.

sounds like you also have bad o2s or possibly a vacuum leak. id check the rubber joints at the throttle body and air box, i pay 49.99 a piece for odb1 fomoco o2s and 59.99 a piece for odb2 fomoco sensors.
