History: Right hand tensioner cracked, stopped car immediately after hearing the tapping, took apart, due to time constraints It took roughly 30 days to replace, tried to fire car up, nothing... No fuel, track issue down to passenger fuel pump, replace, she fires up. I hear the sound in the video for the first time, I take everything apart again, inspect tensioner and chains where they belong, put it back together, start it same sound, I need help tracking this one down... Any suggestions on what's making the noise???

Sounds like bearing noise from the pulley.

I scope the water pump, I can hear loud tapping as well, but nowhere else, it has me baffled, just out of curiosity... Could that even occur? Or is it a possibility it could be the timing chain?

That sounds like a belt issue to me. Does it squeal when you give it gas? Try a little silicone spray lube on the belt and see if it helps. If it does replace the belt.

Keep forgetting these things have tensioners on the timing chains.

No belt squealing during acceleration, but sounds like bearing squeal, tapping gets louder in the area of the crank pulley/water pump

Any seepage from the water pump? You might also try flooding the pulleys with bearings with silicone spray to see if the noise goes away. It won't be permanent, but might help isolate the noise.

Oh, and do you still have the noise if you take the belt off altogether? This would isolate it as accessories vs engine.

Taking the belt off tonight... Sounds like my best bet right now... Thanks, I'll update soon

One of the lower tensioners must be toast, going in again to change the rest of the tensioners soon, the squeaking must be a pulley cause that sound is gone with the serpentine off, thanks for the input guys, I'll post again to update results

There's only one tensioner. The rest of the pulleys are attached to "accessories".

Not the serpentine tensioner, definitely timing related, I believe I'm hearing the lower passenger side... Definitely belt slapping in there, tearing it apart tomorrow night, as far as pulley squeal, has to be the water pump, looks like I'm going all out and servicing all timing parts.

Anyone know if the first gen can be converted to the second gen heavy duty chains?

That keeps throwing me with these stupid engines too. Timing chain tensioners and accessory belt tensioners. Someone says tensioner, I think accessory belt. Bah...
