Did I just run out of luck with my LS?

I drive a 00 Lincoln LS V6, all stock and it's my daily driver. I got it used with 40K on it three and a half years ago, it just rolled over to 103K.

I replaced the sway bar probably about two years ago. But really that is the only thing I've had to do it other than oil changes, etc. At my next oil change I was going to get a tune up...but today my car started running rough (didn't want to accelerate over hill, check engine light flashed a couple times). I took it to the dealership and the codes weren't stored, I've had different mechanics/dealerships say that it's probably just a tune up. I have a friend that is going to do my tune up for me.

I've heard (and seen online) that people start having major troubles with their LS's once they start getting into the higher miles. I've read multiple threads here but just kinda wanna know if y'all have any other advice for me? Is there anything I can do now that might help with future issues?

I really love my LS and always joke with my friend's I'm going to drive it to a million miles ha ha.

it needs COPs.
this is a common issue. easy fix. change the spark plugs at the same time. do it now, before things get worse.

welcome, no dealership would say " that it's probably just a tune up" search around, that problem is very common.

Now, if your question is, is your LS going down hill or will it start becoming more of a problem. That all depends on you and the condition of the car. at 130k, yes. you will need to start investing some money into keeping it running. ... It in not a civic.

Good Luck

+1 on the COILS (again)

you are going to need 6 of these, Visteon 60-1004

Some new spark plugs and to access the coil covers on the V6, it's my understanding the driver side manifold has to be removed.

Don't take it to the Stealership for this kind of work, you'll need another bank loan by the time they are done with you.

Gather parts now, drive the LS easy "if at all", it's flashing on the MIL because it is right now an intermittent failing coil on one or more cylinders.

It will store a code for reference, only way to get it is to have a scanner ready, beat on it, reproduce the blinking MIL and read it immediately.
It clears itself quickly. it would store a P03XX code. It clears it's self quickly on the same drive cycle when the percentage of misfiring is reduced to within acceptable limits.

For instance a P0302 if a misfire on #2 ~ OBD-II Trouble Code: P0302 Cylinder 2 Two Misfire Detected

... something like that.

Perhaps get you guy friend to get on LVC here before tackling the job,
lots of folks here able to help you/him through it.

After Coils & Plugs replacement, finish the job with a cleaning of the Mass Airflow sensor and a fresh air intake filter.

BTW: replace ALL coils & plugs, do not bother trying to figure out which cylinder is misfiring and only replacing the one, all of them need to be refreshed at this point.
... and don't keep driving it while it's misfiring like that, the end result on a misfire is unburned exhaust into the expensive Catalytic converters (CAT) on the exhaust system and those are expensive to replace.

don't waste money at the Stealers on stress testing the coils, you could buy a few coils for that price already.

~ good luck.

oh ... and WELCOME !

You should also replace your PCV plumbing while you are in there.

You made it to 100K miles on a set of coils, your luck certainly has not run out.

Thanks everyone for the welcome!

The LS is sitting right now, my friend is gonna take a look at it tomorrow. I'm gonna have him get on here and look around.

I'm gonna start pricing parts.

Thanks again!

Most people need coils at around 60K, Second set at 110-120. You are doing good my friend.

Spark plugs, and changed my fuel filter too..it's been running like a champ ever since. I asked him SEVERAL times about my coils but he said they looked great to him.

Im at 261,000 Kms (156.000 miles) on my 2002, original Coil packs. Only recently it has started to hesitate in over drive, and take off. I have Replaced the sparks twice on it. Looks like my Packs are finally going.

It doesn't matter how they look, it matters if they are failing internally.

Time and time again.......
The coils (they aren't coil PACKS) and plugs need to be replaced together. Either will cause the other to fail. At over 100K miles I can pretty much guarantee you need new coils.

+1 the PCV elbow is a big problem on the V6 LS.

+1

Hey, if it runs good now without new coils, then so be it ... nothing more said, other then if it begins to run rough again down the road, it may need new coils eventually.

I have the 01V6 at 151k miles

The rubber parts are starting to fail now. I replaced quite a bit of stuff around 100k miles.

Things you will need to replace.

When you remove your manifold to replace the PCV and elbow. Be sure to remove the valve at the back of the manifold and replace the o-ring.

Many common items crap our on the V6, you will find them all here!

You will find fixes for most if not all problems here too.

If you can't find it just shoot us a query!
