Fml....

How much do windshields run for g2's? :(

that's certainly interesting

I called a couple places a few months back, they were all asking around $198 to $216 installed.

Attack of the killer rear view mirror. I can honestly say I have never seen that before.

Well, it was my stereo's fault. I've had trouble in the past with the glue giving out, but nothing like this has ever happened.

So far quotes are 150-225..Not as bad as I thought.

Doesn't look like the glue gave out, looks like someone used the mirror for a panic grab-rail and tore it off the glass. Took some of the glass with it.

We charge around 200 for one installed and keep them in stock. Mine was free cos I work there. :D
Beware of the shops selling the cheap chinese windshields, good deals aren't always good deals. Thin glass, and you'll notice the distortion immediately, since the windshields in these cars have quite a rake.

That happend to mine once, the piece of glass was smaller though.

I just glued it back on with the "special" mirror to glass glue and it was fine.:)

I did eventually have to replace that windshield because of an unrelated crack though.

I get mine done for $130 installed for oem glass, but I work at a shop and we give the guy all of are other glass business. But kaha is right don't get chinese junk glass you won't like it.

I was just listening to a sweet jam....Then boom. I kinda chuckled once I saw the glass, but I was still kinda pissed. It does have a windshield leak on the drivers side A pillar and a 2" crack on the very top corner of the glass that hasn't moved since I bought the car. Now's a good time to just get it all dealt with.

One place wants 150. Tempting but I don't want to cheap out on a windshield. Safelight was 240 and another i'd consider reputable was 225, both free install at home or office.

I COULD just leave it the way it is or pull a Billcu... :shifty:

If you want a new OEM

Too much trouble Nolimit. Thanks though.

Will they be using the oem molding?

They would use your current molding but the windshield itself would be laid down on a fresh new hot bead of melted rubber. They done the back window on my black 94 for me. He removed and removed and then put the 93 glass on the 94 for $119, labor only here in my driveway. The only reason for the swap was because the 93 was ripple free. My 95 looks or appears to be new. No fade and no ripple anywhere. Now I need a new windshield myself. Mine is pitted a lil too much for me. I think I was quoted close to 150 installed here at home.

Anyway to prevent this in the future?

Downgrade my newly upgraded system?

I'm trying to think of some kind of mount that would work w/o looking goofy.

Be sure to get good glass. I bought a parts car and it had another windshield put in and it didn't have the curvature ours has. It was flat across the front.

That is pretty strange that happening like that.

Safelite is the LAST place I'd let touch any glass in my car.
Ask any experienced auto glass guy about Safelite. I can tell when I pull a windshield if it was done by Safelite, not enough urethane, nicks and gouges in the pinchweld that weren't hit with primer, just fast and sloppy work.

They suck.

No, the bracket will already be on the new windshield and shouldn't fall off. And in all my years I've never heard of a stereo knocking off the rearview. There had to be something else up there.

just imagine what that system is doing to your hearing...what? I SAID : IMAGINE WHAT THAT SYSTEM IS DOING TO YOUR HEARING!.

Thank god it doesnt affect your seeing,so you can still read when you get older.

:D

seriously though,i dont think you need to worry about your new windshield doing the same thing.

Thanks for the heads up. I won't be using them.

Question: Would it be wise of me to remove the a pillar panels and dash cover? If I can prevent damage/broken clips to interiour parts from a rushed installer i'll pull them out myself. One more thing, do they mind if you watch?

It happens fairly often in the car audio community. It's possible that the mirror came a little loose on the mount and wash jerking around. I honestly don't know.

I don't really listen to it all that loud anymore. If anything i'm underutilizing it.

Just drill a hole in it and bolt it through the windshield. :D

Done!

$0

In the last ten years I've had the windshield replaced on my 95 twice. Check your insurance, a chip they try to fix, but a crack they replace the windshield.

I only carry liability atm. I should really check what they'd charge me for comp now that i'm older.

Where I live, State Farm wouldn't even allow me to get full coverage because of the cars age. I remember knocking the mirror off 4 or 5 times on the 94 and I have the same system now in the 95 but I have toned it down a whole lot since then and this mirror has the compass built onto it. The 94 didn't. So far, I haven't had the 95 mirror drop on me but as the heat rises, I'm expecting it.

I remember me and you both were dropping mirrors about 3 years ago, left and right. I think you loosened yours up with the blow through setup you had going on in the rear. I know with mine, the windshield really takes a beating when the bass hits but like I said, I have brought down the noise.

Heat has alot to do with it. I've never had issued in the cooler months. Yesterday it was 80ish up here and it just had enough.

Lol, we were having some issues back then weren't we. :D

Constantly! We were trying to find the best glue and then I come across some at O'Reilly's and it had sand paper with the kit and that seemed to work for me for a long time but it did eventually drop again, luckily it was hitting the message center but it still pisses you off when it comes down. Then the fire brought it down for sure. The heat on the outside of the car was so hot, it just fell. That's what tells me yours was bass related but also heat related. Your glue was so good, it took the glass and all with it. The glue I was using had to be mixed. Not sure if you ended up using that or not. I drove for the longest without a mirror. :p Nothing back there I need to see anyway.

I was using and had the best luck with the the cheap permatex kit. I tried just about every kit but they still failed just as quickly.
