Dig these rims??

Chrome wheels are like man jewelry.
Satin colored wheels just don't stand out enough to bother with.
It's like the difference between plain and fancy.
Chrome wheels are always of the premium style packages on new cars.
IMO black wheels look like they belong on a police car or some other fleet vehicle.

I thought watches were man jewelry. :p

As far as satin vs. chrome. I think the difference is more between subtle and flashy. I don't feel the need to be that flashy.

My reasoning for the dislike of chrome has pretty much stemmed from the pep boys/jc whitney offering a chrome overlay for EVERYTHING. Kind of lost a lot of the "classyness" for me.

To each his own.
Back when I was 20 the first thing to go on a pony car was replacing the factory rally wheels with Cragar SS 5 spoke rims or maybe Centerlines.

Had a 68 firebird 4 speed back then.

I just finished taking out the A4 and putting a T-56 6 speed manual transmission with scattershield into my other car, a supercharged 383 Camaro vert.

The factory rally rims did not do it justice and the chrome is a big part of the attraction of the car for me.

It was my first mod back when I bought it in 2000.

Those are nice wheels, and chrome does look good on darker colors.

I'm not disputing the fact of whether or not chrome looks nice. It does, just has to be in the right application. I tried to phrase it as unbiased as I could.

I think another reason the younger crowd is staying away from chrome is due to the availability of stock chrome on tons of cars.

Who wants to modify their ride to look like it did when they brought it home?

I think the actual automakers have ruined the idea of chrome wheels. And also the idea of larger wheel size on trucks and SUVs. Not that long ago, putting 20s on your truck was The new fad. Now you can buy a truck new off the lot with those.

It is overkill/played in the chrome wheels sector in this day of modifying cars.

I put these 18" $600.00 ebay no name tripple 5 spokes on my light green tundra LS and they look great to me.

Almost like true spokes.

Originally I wanted to put the Cragar SS's on the LS :p but liked these when I saw them.

It's more a preference than an application.
Factory chrome wheels are usually not as impressive as the aftermarket ones.
I like the factory 8 spoke one's that came with my car but I use them as winter wheels now and after 6 years they have begun to peel in a few places, which I've touched up with aluminum spray paint after dremeling them.
They've also peeled away on the inside which I've also refinished.

Non chrome perhaps has a less decorative, more purposeful machine like engineered appearance and there probably lies the appeal.

Yup, and the LS is an "older guy" car, just like the Seville is on the other side of LVC. Which makes me wonder why some many young guys are driving them.
:Beer

Depends on how you define old. The LS was aimed at the 35-45 year old young executive buyer.

I didn't say old, I said older. And 35-45 is considerably older than alot of the 18-30 year olds that seem to have an LS now (and the Seville as well) and want to do things to them that's more associated with the younger, tuner crowd. And the guys who were 35-45 when the car came out (like me) are now 45-55 (like me.)

Personally, I think wheels like Pek has look very nice too. But I still prefer chrome.
