Hi everyone.
My '06 Le with 66k miles does this thing and I thought that I had better check with other owners to see if this is "normal" or indicative of a problem.
When you start it and begin driving, once you get up a good speed, maybe forty MPH the car makes a high pitched whining noise that sounds electronic for about maybe two or three seconds and then there is a faint clicking sound under the steering wheel and the noise stops.
I can't really say for certain when it started doing it or if maybe it always did it. I am slightly hard of hearing and usually I have the radio/CD player on and it's possible I just never noticed it until a couple weeks ago when I turned the radio off and just never bothered turning it back on.

Thanks in advance for any replies! I appreciate it!

If you have the factory navigation/THX system, then unfortunately this is normal and Ford has no fix for it. AFAIK, everyone with factory Nav on the LS experiences this. The sound actually happens when you first cross 2500 RPM while accelerating at more than a very gentle pace. It won't happen again until you restart the car.

Ok! Thanks. That actually isn't bad. As long as it's normal and nothing is broken, I'm fine. I mean, I would prefer the noise not happen, but as long as it doesn't mean something is wrong I am happy.

Thanks so much!

Not all 03-06 LSes experience this. Here is the bulletin on this:

19419 2003-2006 Lincoln LS high frequency noise in the passenger compartment- AdvanceTrac system- Do not attempt repairs/replacement-Normal operation Some 2003-2006 Lincoln LS vehicles equipped with AdvancTrac and a THX/NAVIGATION system may exhibit a high frequency noise in the passenger compartment for 2-3 seconds during the functional self-check of the AdvanceTrac system. This self-check happens once per key cycle the first time the engine reaches 2500 rpm or higher, with the vehicle speed between 15 and 55 mph, while not braking. This is a normal characteristic of the vehicle, so no repair should be attempted. Effective date 10/06/2006

My question is, does the AT not self-check if you stay under 2500 RPM?

This is where I started this discussion....

Sorry that you were apparently offended I didn't find your thread. This forum is busy. I used the search function, but my keywords didn't bring up your thread and I admit I didn't do a very thorough search.

Anyway, thanks for linking me to it. I will read through the replies there!

Dude, it takes much more than that to offend me!! I was just giving you a thread where you could read all about this; and maybe (hopefully) have an idea on how to eliminate the tone. The pitch is a little painful to me.

It's all good!

Ok. Good. I am still new here and haven't quite gotten in sync with the vibe of the forum. The last forum I was a member of everyone was always mad about everything all the time. Ha.

I just finished reading all the replies on your thread. It is kind of weird that there is no way to fix it. Honestly it doesn't bother me that much. High-pitched electric noises are my most hated kind of noise, but luckily it lasts exactly under the amount of time it takes me to get pissed off. Ha.
I can live with it happily as long as I know something's not self-destructing in there.
