Two weeks owned and blammo! Problem. I was driving the other day ago and put it in cruise control and the car just shut off and I pulled over. Started back up, everything okay. Then another day, I turn my car off - won't turn back on. Then Friday I was having all kinds of problems with it not wanting to start up. I'd turn the key and the engine just wouldn't catch. So I'm thinking fuel pump is messed up.

Finally I get on the highway and put it in cruise control and it shuts off and doesn't start. I thought maybe my battery was low so I tried to get a jump, no avail. In the end I get it towed to the Lincoln Mercury Dealership. This morning they tell me that my wireharness below the steering wheel is bad, when they bypass it, the car starts. Also the wireharness was making it go into anti-theft mode.

Has anyone ever had this problem? And how much was it to fix?

It's a 2000 with 52,000 miles. Sorry I didn't list that before.

I have had shutdown problems but always was able to restart the car after a minute or two.

Check this out. The new wireharness didn't fix the problem, it would drive for a while then cut off, so they bought a new processor (under warranty, i don't know how, i have a 2000 with 52,000 miles). They're putting that in and seeing if it works. If it doesn't, I'm taking my car to Ford (these guys are lincoln mercury dealer where it's at now).

wtf.... dont you just love the time you waste on mis-diagnosis... :wrench

yeah, thats not cool... i would keep taking it back to the same LM dealer & make them realize how stupid they are... if they keep screwing up, report them! to who...i have no idea...

when does this end?

they said they put the new processor in and started the car 15 times, it worked fine 14 of those times, and the head guy hasn't had a chance to look at it or test drive it and he told me b/c of that he doesn't trust it. So they're gettin me a rent-a-car for the mean time, but what could the problem possibly be.

What are the symptoms of a bad coil?

I have a dining-out to attend, I just want to get my car, roll up, and have some good food, laughs, and drinks. :Beer
