Electronics rebuilders

Controller Area Network. It's a different (more standard) way for all the electronic modules to talk to each other.

That's just wonderful.

So, either I find a new one for the 2003, or hope the old one can be rebuilt, assuming that my dealer was full of crap to begin with and an OEM is really not available.

Just freakin' peachy.

You might try Jason Tanin at taninautoelectronix.com to see if they can help. I have had good results on some Lexus items he has rebuilt for me - his shop does good work. I am aware that he also does Ford and GM A/C controllers. taninautoelectronix.com

Still no part. Must be an issue with MUPS. (Mexican UPS)

Called the dealer last week. Never returned my call.

Worth repeating. This is basically a 2005 part (2003 and 2005 were basically the same car mechanically), and, in effect, Ford is saying, even though it's a nine year old part, "tough luck, Mr Consumer, but hey, how about purchasing a new Focus? Mustang? F150?".

(I'm having trouble being polite.)

Called again today.

Still waiting for a callback.

These (censored) STILL haven't even returned my call. Great customer service.

I have an LS and an Explorer which I bought from this dealer.

Guess which dealer will NOT be getting any maintenance work on those cars.

You can't make this stuff up if you tried.

My contact at the dealership has been unsuccessful to get the part I need from Mexico. But, "I'm still trying".

So, I went on line, did about 15 minutes of searching, found a Ford dealer with the part, called them, they said that they didn't have it, but they came up with another dealer that did.

So, I called that dealer and they said that, yes, they had it in stock.

So, I called my dealer contact and left a message telling him where he could get the part I need.

24 hours later, no return call. Called my contact again. Left a message. No return call. Called the dealer with the part to see if anyone had contacted him. Negative.

I happen to know the dealer parts manager, so I called him and vented my frustrations.

HE HAD NEVER BEEN ASKED BY MY SERVICE CONTACT TO LOCATE THE PART!!

He located the part immediately at the same dealership that I had already contacted. My part is now on it's way.

Service and Parts didn't talk to each other, otherwise my car would have been repaired, and most likely put up for sale, months ago.

WTF is going on in these dealerships? Does one hand know WTF the other hand is doing?????????

The part finally arrived from Mexico, and the car's in the dealership as I post. It's been one big PITA.

I don't know if I want to go through this again next week, or next month, or next year. But, if I do decide to sell the car, at least now I can do so with a clear conscience.

She's a perfect running, 22,000 mile, one owner,
two top, black/saddle interior garage queen that has seen rain twice, and ice and snow?..... never........

Some TBird lover would get a nice vehicle.

well thats good they finally got their heads out of their asses and you got your part.

I know this is little late for Jerry but here is a shop that rebuilds Jaguar electronics. We all know how close the S Type and other Jag systems are to the LS.
http://jaguarclimatecontrol.com/news/not-all-units-are-repairable/

To be fair, the Jaguar climate control is a bit different than the LS, and then the Thunderbird one is different from that. For one thing, the Jaguar climate controls have voice control.
Still, they might be willing to try to fix an LS control.

This is just unbelievable.

They replaced the AC Control head, and told me that everything was OK. So, I went back to my normal driving, which means that there are times when the car can sit for days.

First time I let her sit for over a week in a garage that's under my house, she seemed to crank a bit longer, but started.

Next time I let it sit for a week, the parking lights started to flash, she cranked a while, but started.

Next time, after sitting six days, no flashing lights, but she cranked for a while before starting.

Now, I can't help but wonder if a battery drain problem still exists.

Two things: Do you put the key in the on/not run position before cranking? Do you hear the relays clicking on stating after a long sit?
If my LS sits for few days I found putting the key to on to run the fuel pump and build pressure fires it up right away.
I have a drain somewhere too. Warm weather=no problem. Below 35 I hear a relay click a few times after stating. Below 30 and several relays will click until the alternator can get the voltage up. It's supposed to get below 10 tomorrow night, I can't wait to hear them chatter.

Are you talking about clicking coming from within or under the dash? That's not relays, that's the air door actuators for the climate control. I have one on my 06 that is starting to fail. Once in a while, it clicks away after startup for a minute or so.

These are relays I hear, I've worked around them for 30 years and am well acquainted with their chatter. Coming from the box under the hood.

No, I don't listen for anything when I start the car. Also, she's not locked when in the garage.

My wife's LS sits outdoors, and doesn't have any issues. But, the car doesn't sit too many days without starting.

Until last winter, I never had an issue with the TBird. It would sit for well over a week, sometimes more, and I'd start her up and take her out, streets/weather permitting.

And, this is a low mileage, 22K car.

My bro/in/law also had a battery drain on his 03 TBird.

First drain was corrected under warranty. Something about the rear defroster not shutting off. Second issue turned out to be a trunk light that stayed on.

Well, she's stone dead...again.

After sitting in a warm garage for only 5-6 days, she will not start. Cranks slow, and then goes into flashing lights/horn beeping mode. (Before I had her repaired, I could go 5-6 days without starting.)

I'll have to call my friendly Ford dealer tomorrow, the one that said "all is well" after charging me a nice sized repair bill. I'm going to do my utmost not to take a fit, but, the way I feel right now, It's going to be a real challenge. I just hope my wife's LS doesn't start having the same issues.

At my age, it doesn't matter much, but I will never buy another Ford, nor will anyone in my immediate family.
