Hello, LS community this site has helped me out a lot but the problem I have I have not seen it posted here so hopefully someone can help me out I have included pics below as well. Here are the details I have always liked the LS I have a 2001 LS V8, little over 120,000 miles bought it used with 112,000 miles and there were a couple of underlying issues that needed to be fixed. The rear rotors and brakes were beyond bad and needed to be replaced, rear and front stabalizer bar links were all worn and cracked and there was no grease in them due to no case around them. Front control arms were both bad and lower ball bearings on both sides were horrible. The suspension under the car was in really bad shape so most of it has been replaced. Left rear shock was replaced as well. Moving to the front under the hood I was looking to inspect the intake filter and clean it out and or replace if needed well I wasnt able to get the cover off. I noticed that there is a plastic hose under the intake filter and there is a circular fitting on the inside fender where it should connect to. There is also a cap that appears to be missing as well on top of something that I do not know what it is (LOL) maybe something to do with the A/C not sure but hopefully someone knows. I have been able to repair and save myself a lot of money by reading and researching here before doing any repair either myself or taking it to a mechanic. So thanks a lot LvsC community.

Can someone help me with identifying what this disconnected pipe is and what it is connected to and how I can not only get the Intake cover off so I can get to the Intake Filter but connect the plastic pipe back to the fender the way that is appears that it should be. As I mentioned the car just has some minor issues that need to be fixed that if possible I will do myself without breaking anything. As far as the cap Im not sure what it is. I have had the car going on 8 months so I am fixing things slowly. After this the next task will be the A/C as it blows hot air charged it and it worked great for 2 days and then it blew hot air so I put it off till later. Thank You

The plastic pipe is just a 'cooler' air scoop that pulls air from behind the bumper. Engines run better with cooler air. That's what a "Cold Air Intake" is for. I'm not sure if it's supposed to connect there or not. The airbox on my '06 is different. The scoop is part of the lower airbox and sticks into the fender for cooler air.

The cap for the AC connection is mere to keep dust/dirt off the connector. It doesn't do anything for holding pressure in the system. It is just to keep the connect clean so that when you hook up guages you don't push any dirt into the system. You either have a freon leak or your DCCV is bad. Those are my two guesses.

Instructions for opening the air box are on the lid....... The "snorkel" should mate with that fitting. The lower air box is probably twisted. You should ALWAYS replace suspension components in pairs; right and left.

I didnt replace the rear shocks in pairs due to costs, as there is a list of things that need attention. Its short term part replacement, as I plan to replace the springs, strut and shock mount. The "snorkel" will not reach to the fitting the way that everything is currently bolted. The "snorkel" is attached to the bottom of the intake correct? Do you think its ok the way that it is right now no serious damage being done? Thanks for your help.

other than maybe pulling in slightly hotter air, there is no risk of anything getting damaged with it the way it is. keep in mind that anybody that has one of the K&N filters, their filter is just wide open in the same area.
