Found two 2000 Jag S-Types in a junk yard that has the 4.0 V8. Everything I've read said the engines are the same as the 3.9 LS. My LS is an 01 model. Has anyone ever replaced a motor with the jag version? Seems it should be a direct swap over but want to make sure before I buy the motor. I know about the gen 1 and 2 engines.

Not a direct swap, there are many differences in the top end and engine management. I don't think anyone has been able to do it. Try searching I know this has been covered a few times.

No, there are a number of differences. The top end of the jag engine is very different. Their gen I even has a form of variable valve timing (still different then gen II's).
The block is really similar, but the water passages are different, so it may not be possible to mate an LS head to a jag block, but I'm not certain.

This has all been discussed a lot on this site, just do some searching. Don't use the built in search. Use this.

I don't get why these cars have so many differences. Just trying to get a replacement engine for my LS but nothing works but that car that year, drives me crazy.

Sane reason a Volvo and Taurus are so different.
