Hey dudes and dudettes, what do you guys think about the different exhausts for the LS? I think Borla makes one and I know for a fact Magnaflow does. What about straight pipes? Someone mentioned this to me yesterday but wouldn't that make the car real loud? What types of exhausts do you guys have on your LS8's and if you just have stock, if you could get one for free, what would it be? One more thing, does the LSE have a different exhaust or is it just different tips? Well any help would be highly appreciated! Thanks!

Someone said Borla won't fit properly on anything past an 02. Not sure if that's accurate. Love mine! Magnaflow is less expensive and most popular.

Modular motors need some type of back pressure or they won't run right, so straight pipes wouldn't be the best idea.

Correct. There isn't a Borla (AFAIK) nor Magnaflow for the '03-'06. I know the guy whose '03 LS Magnaflow used for the prototype. In fact, he has the only Magnaflow-made, Magnaflow cat-back for the '03-'06. They could only wring out 5 hp, so couldn't justify the ~$700 price.

Does anyone know which Borla rear muffler they used on the 02 cat back? I have an 04 and would like to know which rear muffler they found worked best with the 3.9L motor.

I've been told that you can't get any significant hp gains from aftermarket cat-backs, as compared to 03-06 stock systems- probably would sound better though. For hp gains, a CAI would buy you more bang for the buck.

I agree, but just the mufflers would improve the sound and if there was a 5 hp gain it would be a bonus. From what I have read the 03+ has a good system all the way back from the cats. So I was thinking of just replacing the mufflers at the rear. Already have the CAI. I modded a KKM quite some time ago.

THATS REAL DEPRESSING IF THEY ONLY GIVE 5 HP

Love my Borla setup! Thats too bad no one makes a setup for your newer guys but I guess if you only get 5hp out of it, its probably not worth it to most aftermarket guys.

Not really true. Infact, they do quiet well without little backpressure. With less backpressure you will notice a little loss in low end torque, but you will notice a nice difference in power in the upper RPM's.

Also, don't expect any horsepower gains from a catback exhaust system. They usually net less than 3whp.
