Farewell ole trusty Lincoln

well that same tranny is used in mustangs and i dont hear much about them failing so it must have been a lemon.

where there any internal upgrades done when they put it into the mustang?

cuz a4lds were sh!t until they built them up for use in the 4.0L explorers and rangers.

i tried to have the 2.9L a4ld rebuilt in my truck and nobody would touch it.

a few key upgrades can seriously beef up a transmission.

No as far is i know it is the same tranny without the sst option.

same tranny for 2003 and up LS and 2005 and up stang.

dont know about the earlier years.

Don't mean chit. The tranny in my mark is the same as a lot of other cars, but in 98 it was updated to the best version you could get and it is still the same name.

Then why the N and S chit and certain parts won't swap. A 2000 Ls and 2010 mustang do not have the same tranny just because the numbers are same. When the 4r70w came out, third gear would give way to the ghost a lot. Over the years they updated parts to make it last. Just like the LS. Same numbers don't mean they are the exact same.

The N is 2000-2002 LS and S is 2003 to 2006 LS. S is also 2005-2010 mustang but theres a 6 speed option which is a different tranny.

nobody said the 2000 LS and 2010 mustang had the same one.

why is it so hard to believe?

Lots of parts are shared between the vehicles. They stopped production in april of 2006 and im sure they had a bunch of leftover stuff that just got built into other vehicles.

Well when I was talking about tranny failures, I was talking about the early LSs. When my FML tech told me not get one b/c the trannys suck was before the 03s even came out. This is why I said the trannys are not the same. They have been updated. 97 through 00 5r55n are crap(according to the FLM tech). I am sorry for the confusion.

My 5r55n has lasted 157000 miles. Although, my check transmission light did just come on. Bought a new valve body, solenoid block, filter and gasket kit for under 250 shipped.

Not too bad ifyou ask me.

Well after nearly 10 years and 271,000 miles traded in the LS on a Fusion SEL. Have to say this was the most dependable problem free car I have ever owned. Was going to keep it as a second car but the dealership had an offer for 3 grand over trade in value so i ended up getting $4,200 for it lol.

Enjoy the new car!

You are a bit off base about that, as there are a few known issues with the 5R55 transmissions, especially the earlier ones. Servo bores get sloppy, solenoid blocks fail, a few of the valve body springs are prone to failure, etc. They are all pretty well documented, so at least we know what we are up against.

If you were given three grand over "trade in" for a LS with a quarter of a million miles I say you paid more than MSRP for the new car. I've been shopping for a BMW and I keep getting offered two grand BELOW trade in and mine only has 143,000.

well kbb was 13ish and i got it for $9,600 i dont doubt that they made money off me but dont think i realy got that bad of a deal. lol i went there to get my Charger RT but ive had the lincoln so long that all my past car loans have expired off my credit report so i have to start over.
