I saw this article posted on Lincolnsonline.com and thought I would share it. It's a good read on the last hoorah of the Lincoln LS:

Wow!! The best read for an LS owner hands down. From describing its buyers (new and old) to defining the auto itself. Im not surprised at all that they state 70% of LS buys are new to Lincoln (me not being one of them). Just think of what they could have done with a more aggressive advertising campaign. OH well. Que sera and all that. Im glad I was one of the smart ones (and all of you to) to have bought one before they are gone.

It's generally well-written, but it does have some factual errors. It's notable that he mixes up features from the '00-'02 and '03-'06 LSes; f'rinstance, he gives the pre-'03 HP figures, but lists things like the THX system (which is '04 and newer only), makes it look like only the THX Nav system uses a subwoofer (the Audiophile system does as well), and completely ignores the VVT that was added in '03. Even taking these little errors into account, it's still an excellent read.

THX added in '03. All-in-all a pretty good write-up. IMHO. A few factual errors (but hey, it took Edmunds almost 2 years to find the battery, then wondered why Lincoln would put it in the trunk!), but overall, spot on!

That read right there brought me a whole lot closer to my LS its an awesome car and i see good things in the future for my LS.:D

It also mentions the 06 has a hydraulic cooling fan. God I hope they didn't go back to that!

But I'll still stand by my original thoughts. If they had put some horsepower in this car they would sell them like crazy. Another 100 hp and they would have had a world class performer that would have kicked Cadillac, Mercedes, and BMW's collective butts.

Well Big Daddy ford would not have that. You would have people buying the LS over the Mustang cause you power, performance and room for the fam.

I have been an LS owner for 4 months now converted from BIG 4X4 trucks and I love the little thing. Might get anouther monster tuck but keeping the LS.

Ford's advertising on all of thier brands is just terrible. The LS had such potential for people still wanting performance, but needing some practibility. I've owned several Mustangs, four TBird Turbo Coupes and a couple of Tbird SC's. I currently own an 01 GT, along with my LS. All great cars, but the LS is probably my favorite of them all. It gives you performance and luxury in a four door package. And it does it looking great.

The engineers desiged a great road car that should of sold well. Lincoln chose to hype the Town Car and SUV's using a jazz band. I don't think I've ever seen an ad for the LS. Cadillac chose to advertise the CTS towards a younger than 60 crowd. In my area, I see many more CTS's than LS's.

It's just another great product that Ford has managed to kill because of lack of planning. I'll be looking to get an 05 or 06 in a couple of years to replace my 01. That should hold me over for several more years. After that, maybe Ford engineers will develop another great car that Ford marketing will drop the ball on.

You're confusing Ford with GM here. Ford doesn't kill cars that can compete with the Mustang, power- and performance-wise; in the '60s, some of the hottest engines available from Ford were in the big sedans. In the '80s and '90s, the T-Bird SC and the SHO competed quite well with the Mustangs as far as power was concerned. And let's not forget the Mark VIII, which whooped the Mustang Cobra's tail feathers when it came to HP (280hp for the Mark vs 235hp for the Cobra).

The Mustang just isn't a factor in why the LS is as it is. The LS and Mustang are completely different vehicles, aimed at completely different markets. For people who are looking at the LS on the used market, it's hard to remember that a new LS V8 costs ~$20,000 more than a new V8 Mustang. Adding to the LS's price tag to cover the costs of the extra 100hp would have only exacerbated that difference, making cross-shopping between the LS and Mustang much less of a factor.

It would be more accurate to say that the LS's performance was held back because of PAG--it wouldn't do for Lincoln to best Jaguar at a lower price. But even that is a gross oversimplification of what's happened...

i didn't know about that overheating protection feature. The article mentions it for the first V8, but can anyone tell me if that still exists on the '03s and up? Just curious.

I can speek to this I had a low coolant issue and the temp got up, the computer alarmed and stated that is was shutting the power down untill service is done. I could tell that the LS was running on half power.
