First gen headlight rechroming.

putting hid's in halogen housings with bad chrome wont show you what they are really like if you rechrome them. its like getting new glasses for a blind man, its pointless. rechrome them and then put hid's in them and you'll be in love!

Just to clarify, did you mean "without" instead of "if?" Assuming that's what you meant, of course I agree..

i meant putting hid's in the halogen housings wont show you how awesome they really are unless you rechrome them before you put the hid's in. just putting hid's in crappy halogens is the same as using a candle to drive.

+2 If any of you guys with the LSC housing want to sell them I am very interested in picking up a spare set. Just PM me with a price and we can go from there. Thanks : )

Right so we are on the same page then. If I do bother testing halogen VS HID housings with 9005 HID bulbs it will be with a rechromed halogen...

Anyway I snapped a pic of the beam I get with a 55w 6000k 9005 HID in a 96 LSC housing. It's from maybe 5' away, my friend's POS was parking me in at the time. The pic was taken on my G1 cell phone and as such there's a bit of lens flare going on.. In person, the beam pattern is more defined, it's a bright light against a white garage door so the camera can't quite handle it:

Snapped a pic of an old 94 halogen housing vs a 96 LSC housing, each with a 55w 9005 HID bulb. Sorta unfair because the LSC housing is in perfect shape and the halogen is a little yellow and it's reflector is trashed - but I think it gives some idea on what the differences in light pattern will be.

I'm undecided on whether or not to bother further testing, the halogen housing's pattern is not impressive and I doubt it will change much even if I do rechrome and put a clear lens...

gentelmen the stock 93to 95 houseings with the NTS approved lens(grooves) and lines are used to fouces the light so it doesn"t flare on coming traffic. it is enternal and if you have jamie rechrome or like i have done use chrome duct tape that is polished and polish the outside you get very good field of view at night. do not use halogen bulbs because they build up heat that destorys the plastic and chrome bond thus your reflection of light.

Do you think this is something new to us? We all know that HID kits are the way to go. I have housings that Jamie has done and since he has done them, they have never seen any halogen bulb and I now have brand new housings with 2 HID kits installed. 6000K in the brights and 8000K in the dim. Most all of us has already converted over to HID's.

This is why in the for sale section where I have the housings that Jamie done for sale, I said that halogens are NOT RECOMMENDED and you commented there also making it look like I was recommending them. I'm hoping you were just drunk and or :q:q:q:qed up and couldn't half ass read.

Maybe pictures help you, instead of black and white words.

lolz, Terry. I didn't read it like that. JD was just saying that halogen bulbs are bad, as far as I can tell.

I still havent gotten the other pair of HIDs, I don't want to sell the housings until I can see what they look like in all of their glory. What is a set of pretty damn nice LSC housings go for these days? I only wired up the RH side, waiting for the other pair to do the LH low and high beam. Its funny though, the HID high beam on the RH and the halogen high beam on the driver side makes it look like there is something seriously wrong electronically on the LH side of the car. Makes the light output look like the battery is half dead and the motor isn't running.

I think maybe you are right Martin. Sorry JD! Seriously though, I think we all know now which bulb rules in our cars and in any car for that matter.

I did read it again in the for sale section and DID take it the wrong way the first time. I was in an ill mood last night and took the above post as if we were all retards or something and didn't know that a hot ass 55 watt halogen bulb would burn up the chrome backing on a stock housing. If you don't pay attention to what you're doing when you change your fuel injectors, that will also burn up a set of housings too. :)

With bulbs and ballasts, I would say an easy $500 to $800 if they're clear. Really doesn't have to include bulbs but.... wouldn't be any need for keeping them. I have seen housings, ballasts, bulbs all sell for $1000.00 + but they were in excellent shape and that was a few years back.

No Limit 95 no need for an app. some of the new guys don"t use the search program on site so thought that i would refresh for those that are trying to upgrade thr cheap but costly way. plus those that don"t know about the reason for the lines on the lenses.stay cool and keep a fire ext. handy. i welded a trailor hitch on a buddy van had him fill the gas tank before i did. thought i would use the high freq. for ease of starting the weld but it found a crack in the flux and burned through the gas tank.held my finger over the hole and told him to shoot the fire ext. he had never used one. so i told him just pull the pin and shoot. needless to say but everything came out all right. put a piece on rubber on a screw and finished the weld.

JD, don't worry, I have a fire extinguisher handy but hopefully, I never have to deal with another fire again. I was lucky that night and the gas tank never had the time to explode along with the front of the car. I learned a big lesson that night and also found out that I can move quicker than I thought.

BTW, I think I must have been on my period last night lol. I was the one half ass reading but now I see how you worded it. When I bought the new housings, they sent brand new halogen bulbs with them. I took them out as fast as I got them. Unless I have a wreck, they should last longer than the car does, I hope.

Wow, that much for used HID housings?

Ah, mind, that's with bulbs and ballasts - don't want those junky things.

Well, if somebody wants to sell me a good set of HID housings only for $325... money is waiting. :)

500 to 800???????????????? not in this day and age! unless you are loaded and really stupid!

I was the one talking about clear lenses on halogen housings, yes I know what the mini lenses/lines are for... they just don't seem to do a whole lot.

After my testing I've decided the only way I'd get rid of my LSC housings would be to find a set of quality D2S projectors and stick them in a set of halogen housings and fab a clear lens for them. I just can't decide if they could be made to look good (IE not ricey.)

And Jamie that figure was with bulbs and ballasts, I unloaded my bulbs and ballasts on eBay for about $325 total... Paying 5 or 600 for the whole setup would be a pretty good deal IMO, just sell the bulbs and ballasts and the housings come out to 175-275.

Yeah Jamie, I did mention in the first sentence that the price would be for all. You must have cigarette smoke in your eyes.

I've been keeping an eye on those, Terry - trouble is, they're already at $300 and I can see them shooting up in the last minutes. Also, one of those has a cosmetic defect that will bother me. (passenger side corner - yellowed adhesive)

whats the hype over them? i have had them on my own car, and i sold them because my halogens in my other mark at the time i had these blew them away, they look good being clear, but the light output sucks compared to halogens with hid bulbs inside.

That's the only reason I want them - they're kinda' rare and they look sooo much better. If I got a set, then I'd get some DLF rings and a 9006 4300K slim digital HID kit. Then, I'd sell off my stuff cheap cheap!
