Follow-up post. No crank, no start 02 LS V8

The dealer has it at an unexpectedly reasonable price.

Doesn't sound like the guy testing it is doing a real load test...

Damn will the dealership load test it for me for free?

Maybe, I've never asked. However, their reply to such a request is likely to be that you should have the car towed there and pay the standard diagnostic fee.

So you don't believe that it is the battery (and maybe it isn't), is there no way you can get/borrow a known good battery? Replace your battery with it just to see if the car will then start. If it does, give that battery back, and go get the correct LS battery from a dealer or elsewhere. (Our local SAM'S Club seems to have the correct one.)

For what it's worth, I paid about 110 for a new battery from the dealer, out the door, give or take a buck or three. This is around middle of the road for batteries where I am. It's about the only part I've been able to successfully buy for the LS from my local dealer. They haven't been able to find anything else I've asked them for.

Please don't get the Optima. It is the wrong battery for this car. Even the guy from Optima that was on here for a little while said that. It doesn't have a connection for the vent tube, but it has two vents. Under adverse conditions (like a short or overcharging) it will vent hydrogen into the trunk, and that will circulate into the cabin. You really need to get the correct, safe battery! (Walmart may even have the correct one now.)

LVC truncates pics...

"When used with a properly regulated constant voltage charging system (such as an alternator), the OPTIMA will not emit hydrogen gas. However, gassing can occur when charging at excessive voltage levels or in extreme high-temperature conditions. In automotive applications, this typically will not happen if the alternator/regulator stays below 15 volts."

It appears you are semi correct:

"runk/interior mounting – If your battery is mounted inside the passenger compartment or trunk (common in many European makes), the battery must be vented to the outside of the vehicle. OPTIMA® group 27, 51, DS46B24R, 78, 34C and 31 batteries all have ports for connecting a vent hose."

So yes Optima will vent hydrogen into the trunk if overcharged, but also yes they do make batteries for trunk applications. I bought mine from Walmart, so it prolly doesn't have a vent hose connection. But next Optima I purchase will be one of those models for my 2005 LS.

FYI a motorcraft (750cca) at the dealer in $130 out the door, with a 36mo free replacement warranty (after proving it failed im sure) and a prorated additional 64mo's of replacement... tough to beat that...

I had it towed to the shop. Engine wouldn't crank by hand. I'm not too sure why it seized, I kept the oil topped up.

...I kept the oil topped up.

Thus far, I haven't had to add any oil between changes. What oil were you using, and did you change oil and filter as directed by the message center (about every 5K miles or once a year, whichever comes first)?

It would be interesting to know what happened, but I assume that you aren't going to pay for a tear down to find out (don't blame you there)...

I was using high mileage castrol I believe it was. Every time I had it changed I had the filter changed with it. It needed to be topped up every so often because the neck of the oil spout thing was loose so I would get some slight leakage. I would definitely like to know what happened too. I loved the car and will probably buy another one day when I can afford the maintenance and gas. But for now I think I'm going to pick up an RSX. Have heard nothing but good things.

I'm definitely a little above average in height so I'll have to see how I fit when I sit in one lol. Sat in a tiburon and that thing was pretty small.

I'm old school so I do basics first, usually a car doesn't seize after its parked. First turn on key n turn on everything electric then put blinker on n see if it blinks or slow. Next put a jump box on it n see if she'll turn over. Turning it by hand is not easy, but try those first. Ur battery may b bad n jump box may not b strong enough so take Ur battery out n bring it to be tested. In all my years I've never heard of an engine seizing after its been parked without it glowing red.
Good luck!
