Has anyone considered the supercharged ford lightning swap for a mark 8.
i came across a great deal on a ligtning that was ins totaled but was only hit in the rear. the guy is selling it for 3g's with a r title. im thinking i could buy it take out all the things electrical and engine and swap it into a mark 8.

I hear that the 5.4 is WIIIIIIDE and cramming it between the strut towers is DOABLE but A biotch in a mark! But hey more power to ya if you are going to attempt it!

Did they make an aluminum 5.4 block? that extra weight is an ugly thought. But half inch K member spacers might get you the clearance you'd need without a cowl. You 'd for sure clear with a normal cowl hood with the spacers I bet so clearance isn't a real problem theoretically.

Some people talk about things, ... usually they're not the people that get things done. I'd rather have 3k$ worth of mods on the 4.6 than a 3k dollar stock 5.4 lightning engine. But if you want the lightning engine then hey just do it! It'll fit, and work, and be unique! As long as YOU want it what's it matter, anyways! ;) I'd like to see it done.

For $3K you could probably almost get your 4.6 up to the stock lightning status. Forged internals, blower, intercooler, $3K is a great deal on that, plus you can sell the front end parts that are left to recoup some of the money!

well the thing is im looking for somthing no one has done. As for the 4.6 cobra that might be a go also. i know a guy named kasper who does some pretty wicked work on mark's so im shure if i give him my car and fund him correctly then i should have somthing most unique. this will be a full year in planning.
mean while im just looking for a daily driver mark 8.

then agian for the amount of money investing and still being somwhat slow of what i want to be. i should just leave the marks alone and start building the car of choice wich is a 2000 and up vette. black on black. but im still witheeen a year or so away from that as my point in stand right now

How would you get a 4.6 DOHC up to 360 Hp and 440 Ftlbs with 3k???

I don't see that happening...

I think this lightning drive train swap would be MEAN! and with 100 dollar pulley swap we are talking another 20-40 hp... I mean the mod potential on these motor is outrageous!

If you could get the whole drivetrain, just shove that sucker in there! Put some spacers on the K member to drop everything down, put the Cobra-r hood on a gen 1, get a custom made driveshaft and some engine management and that thing should be good to go!

Rock on and keep us in the loop!

All the problems of an 03 Cobra engine swap (actually, probably 5 times more), but with none of the advantages.

You'll never get anything on top of the engine to fit under the hood. You need to take a second look at that induction system. Have a funt ime custom fabricating headers too, because the Lightning manifolds will never work and Kooks doesn't make anything for SOHC Mark VIII cars. You can try rigging some T-Bird headers in there, but they'll probably never line up.

If you manage to get that engine in there for less than $7k, I would be greatly surprised.

Well its going to be a year or so before i attempt anything. Im still thinking of going with a cobra motor with lots of mods. It's all in the fog right now but when i have the cash money im going to make one nasty mark 8. i have even been thinking of putting the mark 8 motor in a mark 7 after getting the mark 8 a new cobra motor. or i could just buy the vette and supercharge that. i dunno well see where i go in the future. im looking to cash in on a few investments i made.

Have you considered going with the new 3 valve V-8? That hasn't been done.

Maybe I'm just a total and complete retard, but why would anyone want to swap out an all-aluminum V8 engine with a block built like a brick ****house and DOHC heads? What more could you possibly ask for in an engine? Sure it takes some work to make it into a beast, but what engine doesn't?

Maybe it's just because I remember a time when you couldn't count on an OEM block casting beyond 500 WHP, or when your basic OEM head castings stunk worse than a dead skunk on a hot rainy day, but to me, such an engine as the Teksid DOHCs are very desirable.

For $3k, just add a blower. Then, you have your answer. But there was a lot of obviously unseen sarcasm in that post I made.

And dominus, think 01 Cobra R for induction and headers.

Chickenviii, there are options for DOHC 5.4's Look to the newer navigator heads for that.

well this is one of the reasons i posted this because i wanted to see what everyones opinions where and some of the tecnical advise that goes along with it. As for me im thinking of just getting a vette and getting out of the mark game all together they just arnt offering me what i want. but for now im still looking for a daily driver mark that may just may make a nice car one day. as of for now
i just done know what i want to do.

There are always many unseen difficulties with swapping motors that don't belong into a car. Trust me - it is virtually never 'easy'.

Now, if Mustang headers could fit in our cars, you think that we would be turning to Kooks? ;)

I saw an article where they did a Lightning motor into a Fox body. I stuck out the hood ALOT like mentioned earlier. I believe the figured it would need like a 8-10" cowl.

Nobody ever said speed and HP were cheap!

Also, remember this old saying

"He who has the most money, goes the fastest"

If you were going to all the trouble to swap motors, there are many motors that would make more power for cheaper than a lightning motor.

if he went to nav heads the lightning blower wont fit then hes back to square one, and broke

As a 04 lightning owner (with sic ass mods 11.8 1/4) i would say buy it, swap it, love it. my lightning dynoed at over 500 rwhp, with out touching the bottom end

by it and DOOOO IIIITTTTTTTT! i dare you
