I finally found a clean 2003 v6 - silver- premium everything - including chrome wheels- buying from a ford dealer. It has 15,000 miles on it- price is 17900.
Still under warranty- appears to be in excellent condition. Clean carfax.

Does the price sound fair?
Is there anything I should check out?

Any help/opinions appreciated.

thks, Tony

$17.9K sounds high for an '03 V6, even with that few miles. With the incentives currently in effect, you can get a new '06 LS in the $27K ballpark, which should depress the prices of older LSes. You should be able to get a mid-mileage '04 V8 for not much more than what they're quoting.

Beware, the warranty clock started ticking on the car's "in service" date, which could have been in '02, so it may not have much warranty left. Lincoln Customer Service should be able to tell you how much time is left.

I appreciate the quick feedback- the rest of the story on the price is I'm trading a 97 maxima with 80k for 5000 (kbb trade value is 4000) so the net on the ls is 12,900. The warranty is good till 5/07 and I was thinking of buying a 7 yr esp warranty which would be good till 2010.
I appreciate any additional feedback. thks.

why v6? most v6 owners here complain about lack of power. get the v8.

Too much. I paid $19k for my '05 V8 Ultimate one month ago.

yea dont get a v6, get v8 price difference is minute compared to gains

Actually the 03 and up V6 is really nice, I drove one before and it feels almost as strong as the 00-02 V8. It is also much smoother than the 00-02 V6. Probably is better on gas too.

Actually, the 03+ V6 is quite powerful compared to the 00-02 V6. My 03 V6 never had a problem getting up and moving. That said, the price does seem a bit high for a V6 even with so few miles. If you can negotiate down to $15-16K and the car is clean, it could be a good deal.

Well I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I agree with the comments on the power
of the 03+V6 - feels a good bit stronger than the VQ in my maxima. I disagree on the price comments - KBB trade on the 03 is 16.2 and edmonds is 17.6. Comparables on autotrader are 16900-19900.

So I have to decide within the next few days, what bothers me is adding the 1500 for the esp ends up totaling close to 20K for the car.

Any other thoughts are welcome.

The drastic cuts in the price of new LSes have been quite recent (since July), so the depression in the used prices are probably not accurately reflected in any of the online services.

Trade on my '04 V8 was listed at $19K-ish back in August, so, yeah, $17.9K for a V6 is high, regardless of miles.

too expensive, the V-6 shouldn't be commanding such a premium. heck, on ebay you can find loaded 2005 V-6s for less.

In my research I've found that most of the 2005 V6's for sale are prior rentals and they are base cars. Most of them can be had for $19-20K.

The one I'm looking at is a premium with every option (no navi) in pristeen condition with 15k on the clock. At this point I don't have anything more
I can leverage with the dealer - autotrader listings are comparable to his price KBB/Edmonds trade value are higher and I think I'm already getting a grand more than my trade is worth ($4k on KBB dealers giving 5k). Decisions,decisions......

I purchased an '05 V6 for 18K a couple of months ago. With new ones going for 24K, the value of used ones are in the crapper.

it doesn't matter what the dealer has it listed for, and what KBB says its worth, because the dealers are cutting the prices on the new ones the value guides are useless (unless you are the dealer selling it!)

If you really like the car, offer KBB trade in value out the door and see if they bite. If they don't, remind them you can get a new "06 V8 for 24K at dealer closeout. I got mine at just under trade in value (and it was from a L-M dealer)

call the dealer and say "if you can do it for 15k, we have a deal". Then let them sit on the thought for half and day, and they will give in. You should get a call with them saying something like, "well I talked to my manager, and he said that we could do it for 15k"

good luck

2005 V6

I just bought a 2005 V6...I drove the 2002 and below V6 and theres a huge difference not only in HP but in the handling due to major suspension changes that they made on the 03+. I have to admit the V8 has alot more torque (When flooring it with the V8 you can definently fish tail and peel out where as with the V6 it just doesnt happen)....I bought my LS for 16900 fully loaded black on black with the dove colored dash accents...with 22K miles on it from off lease only. People are usually skeptical of leased vehicles however when they show you the history of the car you find out the age, gender and main use for the vehicle. Which mine happend to be driven by a lil old lady who used her car for her part time job and errands..so id try to go to offlease only...they sell their cars much cheaper and offer more then warranties....

I appreciate all the advice and differing opinions. So far the dealer is not moving. Maybe its a regional thing - seems like a sellers market for the LS in south jersey (at least those that are in top shape).

I can tell you that I have visited this guys lot and he has a ton of very nice cars. He is on the near west side of Cleveland and at one point I almost bought a 2002 Mercedes from him. He told me that he get a good number of his cars off lease from dealers around the area. If you are thinking about buying a car from him, I can say for sure he has nice stuff.
