About time someone from the NFL say what I've said for years..

Hall of Fame quarterback Fran Tarkenton has kept a pretty low profile during recent years while living and working in Atlanta. But Tarkenton emerged this week to crush retired quarterback Brett Favre for just about everything that has happened since last summer's departure from Green Bay.

In an interview with 790 The Zone, Tarkenton called Favre's dalliance with Minnesota "despicable" and said he wants Favre to sign with the Vikings "so he can fail." Tarkenton added: "How would you like Ray Nitschke in his last year [playing for] the Vikings? Or I retire, and go play for the Packers?"
Yikes.

"I think he has been a great flamboyant quarterback, but he has made more stupid plays than any great quarterback that I've ever seen. Look at his final game in a Packers uniform. He blew that game [NFC championship] against the Giants. He's playing against Eli Manning. I love Eli Manning, but he's still not a great quarterback. He's not Peyton yet, or Tom Brady. He's just a guy. And they're [Packers] are playing at home, and they're in a tight situation, they went to overtime and he [Favre] throws the interception that allows them [the Giants] to come back and win the game. He has done that and driven his coaches crazy all of his career."

Tarkenton should stay in his wheelchair and keep his trap shut. If he retired too soon and regrets it, he shouldn't take out his frustrations on a guy that beat every record he used to own.

Fran was never the man.

And let me clue you in Rich... something you may not know.

Because of Ted Thompson and his selfish desire to have "his" team, Favre had no choice but to put together this deal.

What deal?

I can't believe how really stupid people are. The only way for Favre to get to the Vikings was to go thru the Jets. This deal was put in place before Favre was traded to the Jets. This was always the plan. The only fly in the ointment was Brett hurting his arm last year.

Bus Cook has always been smarter than the Packers. I've met the guy several times. I could never get Cook to agree to let Favre participate in a non-licensed calendar with other Packer players I used to sell.

Favre going to the Vikings was always the plan. Blame the Packers for being too stupid and not maximizing his trade value within the division. What did the Packers get out of this? They trade a 3rd round to move up in the first and get a 5th. We'll see if either player pans out.

The Packers tried to prevent a guy from earning a living. Piss on them.

If Favre sucks so bad, why were they so afraid of trading him within the division? One would think the opposite. Trading him within the division would guarantee the Packers 2 victories a season, right?

All the money in the world doesn't matter. Sticking it to Ted Thompson does.

And if you think Favre gives a crap about the Packers retiring his number, think again. Trust me, the Packers will retire his number and my guess is Favre will not show up to the ceremony.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T.... the Packers failed miserably and that is why we are where we are.

I hope to hell Favre fixes his arm thru the bicep curl regime and joins the Vikings and ultimately beats the Packers this year. I will be as happy as Brett that day and this is coming from a life-long Packers fan.

Yep well said cheese head :)

Wrong Mr. pack man... he was the man and he went out on top.
Watch and learn.

It would be fun for me to watch.
Its a bitter pill for most packer fans, the real fans.
They love the players...not Ted Thompson.
Ted will be known for being a idiot just like Mike Lynn and his famous Herschel Walker trade.
Ted will be rememberd as the one who drove Farve out of town.
If he came to the purple and beat the Pack it would just make the story better.

Fran was great and he was fun to watch.

His Super Bowl record: 0-2.

Went out on top? I don't think so.

John Elway went out on top.:D

LOL you are a packer fan.
He was the top passer and the top rushing quarterback when he called it quits.
The top quarterback of his time.
Last time I checked teams win superbowls not quarterbacks.
Hold on let me check with Trent Dilfer or how about Mark Rypien ;)

LOL you are a packer fan.

Been to over 50 games at Lambeau Field alone.

In '96 went to 18 of the 19 games including the Super Bowl. Helped produce and sell Packer Calendars for 3 years.

Been a fan for over 40 years.

So ya, I'd say I'm a fan, just not an ass kisser.

"but he has made more stupid plays than any great quarterback that I've ever seen"

I'd have to agree with that.......

Correction...

Tarkenton was 0-3 in Super Bowls. My bad.

And now it is revealed Tarkenton is coming out with a new book.
How convenient of Fran to rip on Favre to get attention so he can sell his damn book.

Favre should play as long as he is able and someone is willing to hire him.

Maybe the top quarterback not named Staubach or Bradshaw or Starr or Unitas...

What stats would you like to use?

When he retired, Tarkenton held NFL career records in pass attempts, completions, yardage, and touchdowns; rushing yards by a quarterback; and wins by a starting quarterback.

What stats would you like to use?
There's an old football saying: stats are for losers. But if you want to play that game, try the only one that really counts in pro football: NFL/Super Bowl Championships. Those four quarterbacks all have at least two; Tarkenton doesn't.

I'm not saying he's not one of the all-time great quarterbacks, but if you show me someone who knows football who would take Tarkenton over Staubach, Bradshaw, Unitas, or Starr, I'll show you a dyed-in-the-wool Vikes fan, because nobody else would.
